About the Author

Fr. John Hardon (1914–2000) received his master’s degree from Loyola University in 1941 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1947. He received his Doctorate in Sacred Theology (S.T.D.) from the Gregorian University in 1951, and became a Jesuit in 1953. A college professor, confessor, and spiritual director, he was the author of many books.

If you’re anything like me, you looked at the Catechism and thought, “There’s NO WAY I can read that and understand it, retain the information, have any luck at all.” I was shocked when I started reading the Catechism (after my spiritual director had encouraged me for, oh, three years or so) and it was NOT SO BAD!

Even so, there’s a lot in the Catechism. It’s really more of a reference than a fun reading adventure (though it can be that, don’t get me wrong).
