Another great read by John Lansing. One of my top 4 authors. Always on the look-out for his books. Surprised that with his flair for writing, Lansing only has a few books out there. I love the protagonist - Jack Bertolino's character. Expectantly waiting for the next release. I highly recommend all his books.

Another excellent book by Lansing. I couldn't put it down. He's done it again with another page-turning story about Jack Bertolino and his search for the truth. Buy this book. Buy all of the books in the Jack Bertolino series starting with The Devil's Necktie. Kim M

As a new reader to this series was I curious to see how reading this book without having read the previous three books. I'm glad to say that I found both the plot interesting and the characters well-developed. Retired inspector Jack Bertolino as approved by FBI to find Luke Hunter, a missing agent, who has gone missing during an undercover mission. One of the FBI agents that wants him to find the missing man is Luke's sister. The problem is that not only is Luke missing, but so is half a million dollar that belongs to the mob. So, has the skipped town with the money, or has someone gotten rid of him because of the money? There is not a big mystery to what happened to Luke, the story starts off with explaining that and then it's up to Jack to figure it out. I liked the start of the book, it has that kind of intense start that I love in books when you get thrown into the story right from the very start. I usually like more mysterious kind of books, when the identity of the villain(s) are unknown, but I did enjoy knowing from the start who not to trust as Jack had to figure it out for himself. And, just because you know certain fact doesn't it mean that you know all of it. Jack Bertolino is the kind of characters that I liked right from the start and he's definitely the kind of character that makes me curious to read the other books to get to know him better. His "relationship" with Angelica, for instance, is turbulent and unwise since she is the daughter of a Mafia Don. However, that fact also makes the book more interesting to read. I will definitely be on the lookout for the other books in the series! 3.5 stars

Wow! I look forward to the newest entry in the Jack Bertolino series by John Lansing and am never disappointed. In The Fourth Gunman, Lansing creates a real nail-biting, clock-ticking-down scenario in which Bertolino has to make his way through some very sticky situations involving both the Feds and the mob, both in personal and professional ways, to prevent a major disaster close to home. Lansing's writing is true, honest and realistic and his characters are complex so the reader is pleasantly surprised yet happily satisfied. If you haven't discovered these books yet then you're in for a real treat. Can't wait for the next installment!

In The Fourth Gunman, the fourth book in the Jack Bertolino Series, the reader is transported back into the seedy underworld of crime as they follow private investigator Jack Bertolino on his latest investigative adventure. Author John Lansing weaves a fast-paced crime thriller set in Los Angeles and written in the third person narrative, that follows the dangerous quest of retired NYPD narcotics detective now private investigator Jack Bertolino as he takes on the investigation of a missing person case requested by the FBI. FBI Agent Liz Hunter requests Jack to find her brother Luke Hunter, a fellow FBI Agent who had infiltrated Mob Boss Vincent Cardona's group for the past eighteen months under the name of Luke Donato. Luke had been trying to set Cardona up for money laundering from his illegal gambling operation on the luxury yacht, Bella Fortuna, but he suddenly disappeared. And to make matters worse, Cardona's group is looking for a satchel of money that also disappeared at the same time. Jack has worked for Cardona in the past, and this investigation will once again lead him into the seedy Mafia underworld, where he will find himself caught up in a dangerous and deadly game of cat and mouse. The Fourth Gunman is a riveting and realistic story that is full of intrigue, action, drama, suspense, murder, and dark humor. Jack's latest investigative adventure easily draws the reader in and keeps them captivated and turning the pages. As the reader follows Jack and his associates Mateo and Cruz into the shady Mafia underworld, the multitude of plot twists and turns will keep them guessing what will happen next. Jack takes the reader on a wild ride when his dangerous adventure takes him into the upscale areas and seedy neighborhoods of various California locales. It is a shady and dark world of Mafia illegal operations, money laundering, and murder ... all in the pursuit of solving the case of the missing FBI agent. With a multidimensional cast of characters who leap off the pages; gritty dialogue and vivid interactions; richly detailed description of various California locales; and a no-holds-barred storyline that keeps the reader sitting on the edge of their seats and holding their breath as the chilling trail of dangerous Mafia illegal operations and murders leads up to an explosive climax. The Fourth Gunman is one hell of a thrilling story that you won't be able to put down, and it will leave you wanting to follow Jack on more of his investigative adventures.

Undercover FBI agent Luke Hunter is working on an illegal mob gambling ship off the coast of California when he disappears. Luke’s sister gets in touch with retired inspector Jack Bertolino to find her brother. Jake has an agreement with a mob boss that he just wants to know what happened to Luke and will report only that. He discovers that Luke disappeared along with a half million dollars of the mobs money. There is a lot more going on than just Luke and the money disappearing and Jack is going to have some of those favors he has collected to find out the truth. Jack is one of those guys that you can’t help but like. But he dances around the line of legal and illegal. Because of that he has some serious connections that he is going to have to use to find out what happened to Luke and keep himself alive. And starting a relationship with a mob bosses daughter is going to be one of those things that just might kill him. This is the first Jack Bertolino story that I have read and had no problem jumping in to it, it felt like it could be a stand-alone book. Although there were a couple things that I’m sure reading the other books would be more familiar. This book is full of action, danger, and not a clear truth as to what happened. If you like thrillers and action I think you will enjoy this book. I really liked it and will be checking out the other three books in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

This book brings to mind a lot of questions. Who was the fourth gunman? Where is he? Who is he working for – the good guys, the bad guys or the really, really bad guys? That’s the challenge for Jack Bertolino. By the way, who’s he working for? I was getting an adrenaline rush from this book, and didn’t want to put it down. When it ended, I didn’t want it to end. This was my first John Lansing book. It won’t be my last, because I want to read more about Mr. Bertolino. I know the next book in this series won’t be out soon enough for me. I’m pretty sure Mr. Lansing and his publisher won’t be able to get it out next week. ***Book provided without charge by Partners in Crime Tours.*** Submitted by sunny island breezes.
