The Girl with Nine Lives is a true adventure story-a candid personal memoir describing the first eighteen years of the author's life, which began in foster care until she was adopted by a hardworking couple of faith. Born with a serious balance issue, doctors said Stephanie (or Stacy, in the book) would never walk, and should be relegated to an institution. Being given up for adoption left her feeling discarded and insecure. As she is raised by a loving family, and begins to experience victories, the author learns to see her value in the world, eventually finding her calling as a teacher. Faith has a strong presence in the book; Stacy grows in her faith, and comes to realize that God has a plan for her.

With a childhood so full of amusing, frightening, and unusual adventures and misadventures, it really does seem like a miracle that the author emerged in one piece. Readers will find themselves rooting for young Stacy's success, and at times, her survival!

About the Author

Stephanie Kauffman has been recognized by many writing contests, including the 2020 Braun Book Awards, which shortlisted her latest work, The Girl with Nine Lives.

She's truly a globetrotter, having travelled to forty-two countries, and lived in nine states and four provinces. A teacher for over thirty-four years, Stephanie understands that children can learn important lessons from a good story. She teaches for the Airport Hutterite Colony, near Macdonald, Manitoba, and has done so for seven years.

In The Girl with Nine Lives Stephanie seeks to help readers draw closer to God, and understand that He didn't just perform miracles in the Old Testament-He's still in the miracle business today! She wants readers to know that while it's easy to compare ourselves unfavourably with others, everyone needs empathy from time to time, as we all go through challenges.

Stephanie now calls Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, home.
