The Imperfect Parent: A Nonjudgmental Guide to Raising Children in the Modern World
A judgment-free handbook on parenting kids in all their uniqueness

We all want to raise independent, confident children, but unfortunately, there’s no one right way to parent that we can all learn. Each child is unique, and each mom and dad has their own ideas on parenting, often influenced by the way they were raised. The Imperfect Parent shows us how we can celebrate those differences, embracing the individuality of our kids, carrying on the successful practices our parents demonstrated, and learning from their—and our—mistakes.

A mom of two boys, author Kate Hamilton is no stranger to parenting struggles, and she knows well that anyone who thinks they can parent error-free is just kidding themselves. This book is an honest look at her parenting triumphs and failures and what parents everywhere can learn from both. She explains:

• How to handle parenting advice from others
• How to communicate well with your partner or co-parent
• How to help your children discover their identities
• How to have conversations with your kids about uncomfortable topics
• How to let your children fail

And that just scratches the surface! Recognizing that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to raising kids, The Imperfect Parent teaches you how to forge a path that works best for your family.

About the Author

Kate Hamilton has been married to her husband, Charlie, for twenty-three years and is a mother of two independent and confident boys in college. Some might say she is an unlikely writer because of her dyslexia, yet her life experiences compelled her to write this book. She earned an MBA in international business and is a former corporate executive turned mother and entrepreneur. When Kate is not coaching parents and their children, you will find her volunteering with Lemonade Day, a youth entrepreneurship program; planning the next family adventure; or working with Charlie in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

“Successful journeys typically start with a road map and plan. Very successful journeys also include an experienced guide who has been there, done that. The Imperfect Parent has both. Kate has invaluable advice for all parents, and her sons are the proof of her wisdom. Loving your kids is the easy part. Raising them requires an entirely different set of muscles. Kate’s book is the thoughtful, hard-earned insights that can make the difference for anyone who wants world-class clues for the hardest job in the world.”

—KEITH CUNNINGHAM, entrepreneur, international speaker, and author of The Road Less Stupid

“If all parents read Kate’s book, it would change the course of humankind. Whether we like it or not, our children are the next leaders of the free world. They are coming. Nothing affects the future of the human race more than how these kids are raised and developed. They need great parenting so they can soar with their strengths.”

—JIM CLIFTON, chairman of Gallup

“Kate’s ability to help parents acquire the mindset needed to raise their children successfully, no matter what their parenting situation may be, is nothing short of amazing. She shares many parenting stories that send home the messages of listening to understand, staying curious when communicating with your children, and staying aware of the human nature response. The way she encourages parents to lead by example, to be comfortable examining their own flaws, and to trust their intuition is game-changing.”

—SANDY HEIN, instructor and coach with the Black Swan Group
