The Making of Diabetes: The Musical: The Graphic Novel:
The book is two separate stories. In the beginning and the middle of each chapter are excerpts of the script from Diabetes: The Musical: The Graphic Novel. That novel is writing by Denny Molt the hero of the story. He is a dreamer and often refers to himself as The Ghost (a comic book hero from the 1940's that he shares the same name with). He works at the local casino/race track where he writes his stories. He meets Ashley a bartender (who really wants to be an artist) at the track and convinces her to do the art work. A love triangle forms between Denny, Ashley, and her boyfriend Ricky. At the same time Denny has to deal with Big Biggy a wanna be mobster who thinks he owns the track and treats every one like shit. Denny is the only who stands up to him and he has to face the consequences of doing so.
The story is about friendship, family, dreams, love (both physical and of writing), standing up for what is right, and never giving up. There is some course language (used mainly by Big Biggy) and an agoraphobic nudist.
