About the Author

Ava and Alexis McClure, popularly known as The McClure Twins, are YouTube personalities, models, comedians, sisters, and most importantly, each other’s best friend. The identical twin sisters hit the scene with their viral video “Twins Realize They Look the Same.” Following the twins' instant fame, parents Justin and Ami developed the family's YouTube channel, "The Mighty McClures." Since then, The McClure Twins were named the youngest members of Forbes' “Top Kid Influencers”; made their television debut on Good Morning America in 2016; walked in the Rookie USA fashion show during New York Fashion Week; and have modeled for brands such as Levi Strauss & Co., Converse, Hurley International, Air Jordan, and Nike, Inc. Now they devote their time to the weekly online segment Twin Talk Tuesday and continue to make their audiences laugh.  

Courtney Dawson is a children’s book illustrator of many titles, including A Vote Is a Powerful Thing and The Stars Beckoned. She is inspired by the world around her and all of the good in it. Courtney loves to work on projects that are empowering, inclusive, and whimsical. She also loves rainy days and painting to Sam Cooke in her California studio.

Toddler-PreS—This cheerful, digitally illustrated book will be popular with readers who follow YouTube influencers. Fans of the McClure twins will enjoy this story about putting on a fashion show. On the eve of the show, Alexis and Ava realize that they have different ideas about what to wear. Because they're twins, they want to match. But they are also individuals. The solution is to combine their differing fashion sense into one outfit so they can stay on brand. The book ends in a sort of Grey's Anatomy fashion, as the two girls and their family dance it out. Fashion tips appear in the back matter. There is a specific saccharine appeal for those fascinated by twins, but the title is unlikely to have a long shelf life. Ava and Alexis love being twins, but when their fashion sense differs, will it drive them apart?

Ava and Alexis McClure, real-life YouTube personalities, learn early that being identical twins means being the same in many ways. They have the same face, the same room, the same friends, the same pesky brother. So when they begin planning their first “Twintastic Fashion Show,” they assume they will—and must—agree on everything. But when it comes time to choose their outfits, they discover that they have quite different styles. While Ava “loves everything fancy,” Alexis “likes to keep it old-school cool.” Their disagreement causes tension, but the one thing they know is that they have to work as a team. So they tackle the other tasks first, and when they come back to deciding what they will wear, they have an idea that will suit both their styles. A final spread shows a series of photos of the twins posing in stylish outfits, with accompanying “Fierce Fashion Tips.” The twins’ account of their relationship, their differences, and their dedication to teamwork is endearing and memorable. Animation-style illustrations use a pink, purple, and blue color scheme with accents of flowers and stars. These dynamic Black girls are pictured sporting various natural hairstyles. Readers who aren’t already fans will be curious to discover the twins’ online presence.
