The Metacognition Handbook: A Practical Guide for Teachers and School Leaders
Metacognition is one of the most highly effective but under-used teaching strategies in all of education. Over-complicated by some, over-simplified by others and misunderstood by many, this area of theory and practice is in need of a fresh look. The Metacognition Handbook provides a clear, practical guide for teachers and school leaders to embed metacognition into classroom practice and school culture to enhance student outcomes. Looking at classroom pedagogy, teacher CPD, transition, and more, The Metacognition Handbook argues a case for evidence informed application of simple but effective ways to boost student independence, self-regulation, self-efficacy and motivation.

About the Author

Jennifer Webb is an Assistant Principal and Research Lead at a school in Wakefield. She had the good fortune to grow up in Chapeltown, the vibrant artistic hub of Leeds, and has been shaped by her dual British-Caribbean heritage and a family of dynamic women.
Coming from a low-income, single-parent household, Jennifer achieved a place to read English at Merton College, Oxford, and has since gone on to teach at a range of schools in West Yorkshire.
She curates the widely-read blog, FunkyPedagogy.com, is the founder of The Reading List Project, and runs a widely popular CPD programme for teachers and English departments. Whenever she is not spending time with her wonderful husband and two boys, Jennifer can be found reading a book.
Jennifer is the author of How to Teach English Literature: Overcoming Cultural Poverty and Teach Like a Writer, both published by John Catt.
