The Middle: An August In Savannah Novel
The Middle by Safiyyah Ar-Raheem is the second book of the August in Savannah series which continues to dwell on the blossoming friendship and adventures between newcomer Symone and long-time Savannah resident, Arius. The bond between these two unlikely individuals reached a new level after Symone accepted Arius's invitation to their school's Valentine's Day Dance. Or so it seemed. Subtle yet noticeable changes in the behavior of Symone's parents began to show when they got acquainted with Arius after he paid a visit to their home. Symone also started to develop a sensitivity to things undetectable to most humans by perceiving some kind of energy from Arius's friends and even her dad. Because of this, Arius suggested that maybe at least one of her parents could be an Ageless just like him! This created an inner tug-o-war in Symone between feelings of love and betrayal toward her parents for possibly keeping the secret of having at least one of them belonging to the ancient immortal race just like Arius. This also begs the question about her nature, that she might be half-human and half-Ageless. Is Symone being delusional and her susceptibility to weird stuff just all in her mind or is there more here than meets the eye?
