My aunt sent me a copy of this book for Easter and it made the realization of his death more peaceful for me. It helped me to see this experience as not only a very painful and terrible one, but one that will make me stronger and will teach me a lot. This book helped to ease the pain of no longer being able to see Josh and know how he's doing. It made me accept that he's in a better place now and that he's being taken care of. Most of all, it reminded me that although I won't see his face or hear his voice anymore, he'll always be with me and I will always be with him. I hope every person, young and old, who has experienced a death, whether through family or friends, will get a chance to read this book. On September 11, 2001 our world fell apart. Within a week a handful of strangers from across the country came together and started a grass roots, nonprofit organization, The Next Place Network. Each one of us so moved by the powerful message within The Next Place we came together with the sole purpose: to collect and distribute copies of The Next Place to those directly affected by the tragic turn of events of 9-11. The response has been extraordinarily heartening and encouraging. To date, through donations and gifts, we have presented over 6250 copies of The Next Place to the children, families, loved ones, shell shocked rescue workers and guilt stricken surviving coworkers of those who died on that tragic day. The incredibly effective and universally spiritual message is supported, appreciated and accepted by a myriad of September 11 organizations, religious leaders, death and dying professionals, family crises centers, Hospice, NYFD, NYPD, NYPA, NY National Guard, Salvation Army, NYSEMO, United Airlines, American Airlines, teachers, parents, and children who were directly affected by the terrorist attacks in America. Several copies have also been distributed to the families of the postal workers who lost their lives as a result of bio terrorism. The words and images have given an incalculable amount of emotional comfort and spiritual renewal during this most trying time.

This book has been used by my family for several losses and has been extremely useful for all ages. Our kids connect with the rhymes and the beautiful pictures. The adults have connected with the ideas that are so beautifully described. I would highly recommend this book if you or someone you love is grieving.

Every time there is a death of a friend or family member, I purchase this book for the grieving individuals. It has brought so much peace. It is heart-warming and full of love. Recently, I read this treasure to a co-worker, who was dying in the hospital and as a result, he was calm and relaxed. He died peacefully the next day. I truly believe this belongs on every shelf and in every home!

This is a terrific book to give as a gift to a recently bereaved friend. Such simple words and calming, beautiful pictures convey a sense of peace that help them know they are not alone.

I have purchased this book many, many times as a gift for those who have lost a loved one. The illustrations are beautiful and the message is comforting.

After my teenage son died, this book was recommended to me by a friend. I found it to be a very comforting book, and it is good to think about my son being in "The Next Place." It is a children's book, but I would recommend it as a wonderful book for all ages (I am in my fifties). I find myself re-reading the book, and I keep it on my coffee table. I have bought copies for friends who are also grieving the loss of loved ones. The illustrations are wonderful and the text is non-denominational. Another book that I recommend for people who are grieving is Tear Soup. It is another children's book that is wonderful for all ages.

"The next place" was suggested for me to read by a friend who was on her final journey. As she wished i read it and have re-read it several times since. It has become my go to book when i need a lift from missing someone. It has also become my gift to anyone i know who has lost or is losing a loved one. It is beautifully written and illustrated and has a wonderful way of seeing the sadness of loss while at the same time the wonder and beauty of the next place. It brings peace.

I heard this book read for the first time 8.5 years ago at a funeral. And ever since I have bought it for every friend in my life that has lost a loved one, young and old. It is very beautifully written. It will bring both tears and peace to anyone that is experiencing a loss. I recommend to everyone that is wanting to give something but not sure what at a time that is difficult for anyone. This book can be read over and over when they need comfort and understanding.

I purchased this book soon after my mother passed away. I wish I was able to share it with her before she died...she would have loved it. I plan to have it read at my funeral.

The Next Place is a beautifully illustrated book that is wonderful to look at and the text is spare, but, inspiring. It is mostly reminders of a spiritual nature that many people find comforting and reassuring. I would recommend this book for both sudden losses and for prolonged periods of time when friends and family need support while caring for a terminally ill loved one including family, friends and beloved pets. Children would enjoy looking at it on their own or with an older friend/teacher, sibling or other family member. It is very simple and lets the reader have an individual response and doesn't push anyone to take a certain approach to what they feel about the loss and separation. It is not specific to any world religion, as far as I can discern.

A light of hope and comfort in the darkness when I lost Lee. I return to it again and again. The art work is awe-inspiring.

After hearing this poem at the ceremony of a dear friends passing I couldn't forget it. I always kept it in the back of my mind. When I lost my brother 2 years ago I gave it to my mother, who found the strength to read it at his celebration of life. Mr. Warren's words of the "Next Place" gave me and my family peace.

Even though this book was written to help a child understand death, it is a TREMENDOUS book for adults as well. When my adult nephew passes away recently, this book was read at his funeral. It helped so many of us with the sadness and questioning 'why' feelings. Each of us came away with a feeling of hope and joy. I have given this book to friends who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one and to friends who are currently facing life threatening illnesses. In ALL cases, the recipient has said how much this book has helped them through the 'rough' times. I HIGHLY recommend this book for a personal library, as well as gifts to others.
