About the Author

Dr. Shawn Joseph's passion for educating children and adults has led him to serve in a number of positions in the world of education. He has been an English teacher, a reading specialist, a team leader, an assistant principal, a principal, and a central office administrator. He is also the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles focusing on principal preparation, and his research interests include principal preparation, principal development, school improvement planning, and school/community relationships.Dr. Joseph earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, a Masters in Education from The Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctorate in Education from The George Washington University.In 2009, Dr. Joseph was honored by his peers as the National Association of Secondary School Administrator's Met-Life Middle School Principal of the Year for the State of Maryland. He was selected as a finalist for the National Principal of the Year Award, but his nomination was withdrawn due to being promoted to become a central office administrator in the school district that employed him. In 2010, Dr. Joseph was the recipient of the American Educational Research Association's Outstanding Dissertation Award in the area of Educational Leadership.Dr. Joseph is currently the Director of School Performance at Montgomery County Public Schools and an adjunct professor for The George Washington University and McDaniel College.
