A new standalone novel from New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan.

The last time I saw my best friend's younger brother, he was a geek wearing braces. But when Cannon shows up to crash in my spare room, I get a swift reality check.

Now twenty-four, he's broad shouldered and masculine, and so sinfully sexy, I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to enjoy. At six-foot-something with lean muscles hiding under his T-shirt, a deep sexy voice, and full lips that pull into a smirk when he studies me, he's pure temptation.

Fresh out of a messy breakup, he doesn't want any entanglements. But I can resist, right?

I'm holding strong until the third night of our new arrangement when we get drunk and he confesses his biggest secret of all: he's cursed when it comes to sex. Apparently he's a god in bed, and women instantly fall in love with him.

I'm calling bullshit. In fact, I'm going to prove him wrong, and if I rack up a few much-needed orgasms in the process, all the better.

There's no way I'm going to fall in love with Cannon. But once we start...I realize betting against him may have been the biggest mistake of my life.

**ARC RECEIVED IN EXCHANG FOR AN HONEST REVIEW** I want to say that I really liked this read but aside from the smoking hot sexual chemistry between Cannon and Paige, there was nothing likable about the story or the characters. Let's begin with Cannon, he was super cocky and arrogant, not in a good or sexy way, pretty much in a pathetic, 'I'm Gods gift to women' way..quite unflattering. His only redeeming quality was that he loves his family unconditionally and is very loyal and dedicated to them, to his job as well. Next we have Paige who is kind of an idiot for someone nearing her thirties. She should act more mature and most importantly honest, rather than a hormone ridden teenager, that's just not attractive in what's supposed to be an adult woman. I really didn't like her description of Daniel, the dating site guy, referring to him as a douche when he didn't do anything wrong except try and give a kiss at the end of the date, usual date stuff. Her reaction was quite frankly stupid and uncalled for, she was in the wrong 100% but tried to act like a victim! She lost so many points in my book for that. Lastly Allie, the way to overly protective older sister. What was her deal anyway? She loves her baby brother, I get it. She felt hurt because the two most important people in her life kept something important from her, I get that too. Thing is she totally forgot that both Cannon and Paige were adults and as such could date, have sex, whatever they we're inclined to as long as they were consenting. Her attitude was horrible and her initial glee of Paige's broken heart was wrong on so many levels. Overall, it was an okay read. I'm not really interested in reading any other books in this series, but I did enjoy Ms. Ryan's writing style so I may pick up another one of her books and hope its better than this one. Oh one more thing regarding Paige and Cannon, she was only four years older than him. There's absolutely nothing wrong nor creepy about that very small age difference. Her 28 years to his 24 is nothing. It would have been so wrong if she was like twenty years older than him...yuck! I don't like that when its an older male with a much younger female so I certainly do not enjoy reading about supposed 'cougars'..that's just wrong. SR

I feel like this was written by a 16 year old. Some of the drama was unnecessary for adults, and the wording was repetitive and drawn out. I’m simply annoyed by the characters and the story was just unnecessary.
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
Don't understand some of the drama, so not needed. Like so what if she's 4 years older than him. Like so what if she's best friend with his sister. They don't need her approval and say so. Grew up people.

Really 3.5 stars because it leans more towards good than mediocre, but it didn't really feel like a stand out read. The writing is decent and the fun parts are appropriately steamy, but both the big reveal and the moment of tension/danger teased in the prologue fall a bit flat. I liked Paige well enough and Cannon is cool if way too perfect. Seriously though, could he not have at least one iffy characteristic? Leaves wet towels on the floor, allergic to dogs, anything? The extremely perfect leading man tends to take some of the enjoyment out of it for me because it's an impossible ideal. I see the appeal, but I don't enjoy it. Overall, I wouldn't call is a can't miss read but it remains an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

I enjoyed reading The Room Mate. I liked the storyline and thought it was funny as well. Cannon's a good guy who always tries to make the best out of a bad situation. Paige is best friend's with Cannon's sister Allie which causes a few bumps in the road. I liked them as a couple, they're cute together. However I feel like I should know more about them as individuals; I feel like I don't know a whole lot about them, especially Paige. I still enjoyed it and thought it was a good book, I just think there could have been a bigger connection made. I still rooted for them, but I felt like something was missing.

Love this kind of story. A supposed taboo, overwhelmingly overcome by powerful chemistry. Characters you care about.

This is a sweet, sexy story about a best friend’s little brother. Paige, Allie and Cannon spent a lot of time together as kids with Cannon always being Allie’s geeky little brother. My, what a few years of growing up can do to a person. That’s what Paige thought when she first seen Cannon after all this time. Allie had asked Paige if Cannon couldn’t be her roommate for a short time until he was ready to begin his residency program. What could Paige say…of course she would let him stay and once she actually laid eyes on him after all these years she knew she was in trouble. That geeky little boy was now on his way to becoming a doctor and he had grown into one sexy specimen of a man. Cannon had now adopted a rule when it comes to women; one and done that’s it because he seemed to only attract crazy women. As Paige was impressed with Cannon’s maturation Cannon was also impressed with Paige and the beauty that she had grown in to. Cannon had always had a huge crush on Paige from back in the day and now seeing her he was afraid that his “new rule” was going to be pretty hard to keep. This was a fun and sexy story that spoke of growing up, friendships, relationships, misunderstandings and heart ache. I received this book as an ARC for a freely given honest review.

When her best friend asks her to let her younger brother crash in her spare room, Paige agrees. Why not? It couldn't be that bad, right? From what she remembers, Cannon was a sweet geek that used to follow Paige and Allie around. When she opens her door to great Cannon, Paige has the surprise of her life. Cannon Roth is all grown up. After another relationship ended with his apartment vandalized, Cannon's landlord kicks him out. With nowhere to go, Cannon accepts his big sister's suggestion: stay with Paige until he ends his studies. But when he sees Paige again, his teenage crush, Cannon knows that it'll be difficult resisting temptation. Will Cannon and Paige resist or succumb to their attraction? Will Paige risk her friendship with Allie? Will Cannon put his goals aside for Paige? Once again, Kendall Ryan gives us an amazing book! The Room Mate is a sexy and funny read that hooked me from the first page. I couldn't put it down after reading the prologue! There's a lot of laughter and hot sexy scenes, mixed with a little bit of drama. I loved the chemistry between Cannon and Paige. So intense! And Enchilada? Adorable! Paige is a strong, independent, sweet, caring, and funny, twenty-eight years old woman. Her life consist in going to work, spending time with Allie, and spoil her dog, Enchilada. She feels a strong attraction for Cannon, but she's afraid of how Allie would react if she started dating her little brother. Cannon Roth is a hot, possessive, dirty mouthed, but also very sweet and smart, twenty-four years old young men. He is in his last year of Medical School and soon will start his Residency. He loves his family and his very protective of them. He believes he's cursed when it comes to relationships. He always had a huge crush for Paige. Now living with her, he doesn't know if he should keep Medicine as his only focus, or try a relationship with his big sister's best friend. Kendall's writing is fantastic and she didn't disappoint with The Room Mate! The story is amazing and captivated me from the first page. The characters are great and it's very easy to relate to them. If you want a book that can make you laugh and hot, with the perfect boyfriend, The Room Mate is the book for you! I can't wait to read the Roommates series!

The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan is the first book in her brand new Roommates series. Told in dual POV this book starts out as normal as any other - we learn about Cannon and his unlucky history with women and their psychotic tendencies. He is sudden need of a place to stay and his sister hooks him up and convinces her best friend (since childhood) to let him stay at her place for the next two months until his residency begins. We also learn about Paige, how she likes her space but is quickly becoming A-OK with sharing it with Cannon despite how bad this could go for her friendship with Allie. So the lust and attraction builds between these two and they have a couple of racy run-ins in the apartment and it's hot and tension building... And then the story just explodes into another level of awesomeness you don't see coming. Twists and turns and some major dilemmas are now part of the deal and you just won't be able to put this book down until the very LAST page is read. Loved it and I cannot wait to see what is next for us in The Play Mate, The House Mate, and The Soul Mate - the next books in the series. Enjoy!

I voluntarily received a copy of The Room Mate for a Blog Tour and an honest review. The story was cute and I enjoyed it, the chemistry between Paige and Cannon was off the charts. I would have enjoyed it more had Paige had more confidence and could voice what she wanted instead of acting like a mouse. Yet I guess had she done that it would have been a completely different story. Cannon, (how do authors come up with these names?) is finishing med school and is super alpha. Ryan blended alpha and Dr. in training seamlessly, yet it gave him the vulnerability and personality. Cannon is one of those characters that becomes a book boyfriend. For me the drawback to the story was Paige, she was such a mouse. She is older than Cannon by four years and let's fear rule her. Fear of rejection, fear of trying, fear of disappointing or angering people. I prefer my female leads to be more confident. Overall the story was cute, with nothing that really jumped out as a surprise. I am giving it 3 Boundless stars, it was good.

Kendall Ryan has done it again! The Room Mate was such a sweet and romantic story filled with sexy scenes to leave you wanting for more. Having read other books by Kendall Ryan before, it was refreshing to see something new in terms of the plot and characters. At the beginning of the book we get too meet Cannon, a medical student whose life has been keeping him busy at school and in his personal life. After a nasty break up, Cannon was left practically homeless after his ex girlfriend wrecked his place. Now he has turned to his sister's friend for help, and Paige reluctantly accepts him in her home, even though they haven't seen each other for years. As the two start to rekindle their friendship, the more they began to realize just how much they like each other, but there are things that could get in the middle of their relationship if they don't fix each other's pasts. It has been a while since Paige has seen Cannon, being friends with his sister has made him off- limits, but now seeing again she can see that Cannon is no longer the nerdy boy that he used be, instead he is this hot guy who she can't have. With a friendship on the line, Paige has no choice but to ignore the chemistry that she has with Cannon and focus on her life. Yet the minute they cross the line everything starts to change for the both of them. It's evident from the very beginning that there is instant chemistry between the characters, they've known each other for a while through Cannon's sister, but the minute they decide to give in on the sexual tension around them they know that there is no way back no matter what they do. Everyone has seen just how hard Cannon has worked to get medical school, and Paige's friend is very clear to let her know that Cannon is off limits. This puts some tension on their friendship, especially after a series of events unfold in the story. Now with tensions running high both Paige and Cannon would have to decide what's truly important in their lives. I absolutely loved Cannon, he is a total sweetheart and he is definitely a ladies man. Everyone loves him which makes it harder for Paige because she knows how important his career is and getting in the way of that would destroy what she has with him and with his sister. Another reason why I like this story so much is because in the story Paige is the older one, she has a career now, and it just changes the overall atmosphere in the book. The story was very well written and at a steady pace that was enjoyable to read (especially those romantic/steamy scenes!). I would highly recommend reading this book and any other book by the author. :) ***ARC provided for the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.***

I wasn't sure what I was getting into starting this book. Prologue was a VERY interesting beginning to say the least. Cannon hasn't had very good luck with the opposite sex. And when he's evicted because of his recent ex, he has the opportunity to live with Paige for a couple months. I loved these two together. The spark and connection Cannon and Paige have is wonderful. Allie, Cannon's older sister and Paige's supposed best friend, is not my favorite person. Her selfish attitude really got on my nerves, but done in a way I was rooting even more for Cannon and Paige. The book is 5 stars from beginning to end. I was laughing, cussing, gasping, and wishing Cannon was for real.

Kendall Ryan’s THE ROOM MATE is a heartfelt and alluring read. Paige hasn’t seen her best friend Allie Roth’s geeky little brother, Cannon, in years. When he needs a place to stay, Paige reluctantly obliges. The last thing she expected was that Cannon grew up to be a breathtaking man. He claims that women obsess and fall in love with him after they have sex. She finds it hard to believe and offers to prove him wrong. This contemporary romance takes place in Michigan. It is told from both character’s point of view. It is suitable for new adult and adult audiences. I’m usually not swoony over doctors, but Cannon Roth is definitely swoon-worthy. He is confident and protective. He is caring and thoughtful. He has worked hard to become a doctor. He is a good guy who wants to make sure that he can take care of his mother. I love the reason he wants to become a cardiologist. It’s adorable that he has had a crush on Paige since they were kids. Paige is a sweet heroine. She is attracted to Cannon but torn about betraying her best friend by dating her little brother. She doesn’t have much of a social life. Despite being four years older than Cannon, she is far less experienced. The couple has amazing chemistry. They have known each other for over twenty years. Not only are they attracted to each other, but they are friends. They have several obstacles to overcome in the story; among them, dealing with Allie and a crazy ex-girlfriend. THE ROOM MATE is the first book that I have read by Kendall Ryan. It was attention-grabbing and convincing. I enjoyed her writing style and would read additional books by her in the future. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Cannon I'm so late to the Kendall Ryan bandwagon an for that I truly apologize. This is my first ever book by her and now I have a whole catalogue that I'm going to have to through. This book was blow my mind good and I devoured it in one sitting. Cannon is a medical student who's almost done with school and is about to move to start his residency somewhere else but an unfortunate incident leaves him needing a place to stay until he's done with school. Paige is his best friend sister and a girl he has always lusted after but never approached. His sister calls in a favor with Paige for him to stay in her spare bedroom and her being the ever dutiful best friend agrees. Too bad she didn't know that Cannon grew up into delicious man that gets her motor running, throw in that he says he's a God in bed and women fall in love every time he sleeps with them. That's nothing more than a recipe for a forbidden romance with undeniable chemistry that refuses to be ignored. The writing was exceptional, the emotional connection explosive, the characters were totally relatable and the chemistry was like setting fire to gasoline. I'm so grateful to have read this book an find a new author who's stories I can't wait to fall in love with.

Oh Kendall Ryan, what do you do to my heart?? Oh that's right, you get it all involved, feeling secure and warm and fuzzy, then you gently tear it apart and shatter it. Fear not my fellow readers, Ms. Ryan also mends hearts in the best and most delicious ways possible. The Room Mate is a tempting and seductive story between Cannon and Paige. What do the two have in common? Besides the straight-up combustible passion, obviously. Cannon's sister, Allie, Paige's best friend. Well that complicates matters quite a bit. Yet, when Cannon has to bunk with Paige for a bit because of his slew of psycho exes sparks fly. Please excuse the cliche, but from word one Paige and Cannon just click. I lived for their moments of heated lust and friendly banter. But most of all, what I love of about these two is their undeniable need for one another. Not just in a sexual way. There are several times when one of them simply needs the other to touch them, to ease whatever is burdening their minds. And through some very sweet, lilting, and steamy words Kendall Ryan is able to exude the relief and lightness the minute they touch. I haven't quite experienced a book like this before. The emotions almost suffocated me from their pages, but in a comforting way. I was drowning in everything that is Paige and Cannon and I wasn't sure I wanted out. But there comes a time in every romance book when things are less than ideal. And thanks to their predetermined loyalties, his to his career, and hers to her best friend, it isn't the easiest achieved happily ever after, but it's worth every crazy, wild, sexy moment! Happy Reading! *ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*

Cute, sweet, sexy story! This was a light and fast read that was fun to read. Cannon, our hero, is in medical school and is all about no-strings affairs since girls he sleeps with tend to go a bit crazy. They do things like break into his house. Which results in him deciding to keep it in his pants for awhile and his needing somewhere to stay for a couple of months until he picks a specialty and moves out of state. He starts to rent a room from his childhood crush, Paige, who has always been off-limits because she is older and his sister's best friend. That changes when Paige indicates that the physical attraction definitely goes both ways and maybe they should do something to break the tension. At first, I was a bit put off with the lack of romance and just sex, but around the time that Cannon and Paige started to develop more than just attraction, I started to really like them as a couple. I wasn't necessarily a fan of Allie, Cannon's sister and Paige's best friend The way she thought she knew better what people wanted than they did was annoying to me and she mostly just seemed fairly self-centered... A couple of little touches that I thought were endearing were the post-it notes and the "making lemonade" analogy. They were some of the things that added an extra layer of connection between Paige and Cannon. I am also a fan of friends-who-have-drifted-apart-and-grown-up trope. This was my first Kendall Ryan book and I definitely enjoyed her style enough to read some more! Overall, I enjoyed this one and would recommend it to anyone who likes sexy Rom Coms!

4.5 stars The Room Mate is a perfect blend of friends to lovers romance with a healthy dose of forbidden love (best friend's little brother). Cannon and Paige have known each other since childhood, but things take a steamy and emotional turn once they unexpectedly begin living together. This is the first book in the Roommates series, but can be read as a standalone. I loved Cannon and Paige, individually and together. They are both caring, smart, and independent people, but they also have their insecurities and baggage. Neither wants to put themselves truly out there. Paige is fearful of the loss of her friendship with Cannon's sister, Allie, as well as the possible hurt and rejection she may face if she gives into her attraction. Cannon doesn't want anything to interfere with his goals to be a physician and to take care of his mother and sister, but how can he resist his childhood crush? The story is told from both of their points of views and it really helped to understand the struggle and emotions each of them were dealing with. Cannon may be 4 years younger than Paige, but these two have amazing chemistry and I loved their witty banter and steamy moments. Cannon is equal parts tender and sweet as he is dominant and assertive. His cute relationship with his mother was adorable, but I did find Allie to be too judgmental and annoying. I understand her concerns, but Cannon and Paige are adults and they can do what ever they want with their lives. I also didn't quite believe that someone as smart as Cannon, would continually find/hook up with such crazy obsessive women. The crazy ex's drama seemed a little too over the top. For better or for worse, both Cannon and Paige make decisions that they think are for the best for everyone. I do wish these two would have spent a little more time being honest with each other though, rather than assuming they knew what the other was thinking and feeling. It made the epilogue that much sweeter though and who doesn't love lemonade? ;) Overall, this was a sexy and sweet book with both lighthearted, laugh out loud scenes and heavier, more emotional moments. I felt invested in Cannon and Paige and the push and pull between them had me feeling all the feels! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.*

Lemonade never tasted so sweet! Provocative, playful and wickedly entertaining! The Room Mate is a sinfully, swoon-worthy romance about shared desires - what feels so right, but can look so wrong - and the fear of losing focus on what's most important. It's about the struggles in life; that no matter how bad it made seem, there is always the potential of making lemonade out of life's most sour lemons. Paige and, what a love story! Their dynamic sparked from the pages the second Paige opened her front door. The flirtatious banter, the sexual undertones, and their shared history with each other was so wonderfully written. I absolutely loved Cannon's dedication to his family. And the respect Paige had for Cannon, his need for accomplishment and to provide a better life than what he grew up in. Not once did I feel an awkwardness with the age gap between Paige and Cannon. Cannon's maturity and focus balanced Paige's hard work ethic. And when they finally came together, it was like they were meant to be. Even with the constant meddling from Allie, which I didn't care for - because come on!...they are grown adults and can do whatever they want - I felt like it showcased true compassion and sensitivity from both Paige and Cannon, on how they considered other's thoughts and emotions ahead of their own. The underlining current of drama completely helped drive the story, and the "seriousness" of their relationship made you think about being in the other person's shoes, so to speak. But with all the what-ifs, and should-we or shouldn't-we, I think Paige and Cannon handled themselves with as much selflessness as one possibly can. They would break their own hearts first over the hearts of others. Kendall Ryan writes her books with a natural uniqueness and quality that captures her reader's attention immediately - and I'm not just talking about her book covers! The passion and emotion conveyed is a true credit to Kendall, herself. The Room Mate is another example of her incredible talent, and legitimate status as a bestselling author; an undeniable 5 star must read!

3.5 Stars of Sweetness You seriously gotta love the geek to hottie type of read! BFF's little brother is no longer that geeky smart kid that used to follow you he is a doctor in training with ripples everywhere and a reputation for attracting psychos who want to burn him to the ground. Cannon Roth is the ultimate in ego plus sweet. Paige is the sister's BFF who didn't realize he had turned into such a hottie. But could sleeping with him really make you wild enough to go bat crap crazy....her wager is no. A very sweet, adorable read with very mild angst, a very witchy sister and some serious steam. The slightly older woman and the boy turned to man that she just can't resist. No one should be that hot in a pair of scrubs! Cannon and Paige's story is the perfect rainy day read that will leave you with the warm and fuzzies!

** 4.5 stars** I was so excited for this book when I saw the cover, then I read the blurb, let's just say the excitement kept building the entire time I read the book. This is probably one of my favorite Kendall Ryan books to date. The touch a "forbidden romance" between a friend and her best friend's little (even though he was one fine piece of man) brother was perfect. It was different because Paige is a little older instead of the guy always being older. Cannon is hot. I couldn't get over how self confident he was. It made me like him instantly, but then again I always like the strong confident males. Cannon is the care taker, the med student, the little brother and most importantly the lover. Everything about him makes you love him even more. Watching him fall for Paige made it even better. Paige is best friends with Cannon's sister Allie. But Allie doesn't know she's always been attracted to him. So when Cannon needs a place to stay, how does she tell Allie no? She can't really. Watching their chemistry was so much fun to read. But will she ever admit she is in love with him or will it be too late? I can't wait for more in this series!
