About the Author

Dr. Lia Roberts is a Professor of Political Science at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles. She holds a Ph D in Political Science with concentrations in Comparative Politics and International Relations from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She has served as the Academic Director of the Center for Global Initiative at Mount Saint Mary’s University. She serves as the co-coordinator of the Global Women in STEM and Policy Undergraduate Research Training Honors Program (GWSTEM), an interdisciplinary undergraduate research program that prepares students for research careers. She is the co-investigator on Mount Saint Mary’s National Endowment for the Humanities Women at the Los Angeles Tijuana Border Project. Dr. Roberts’s research interests include Latin American politics, democratization, the politics of economic reform, and women and political participation.
