The Teachings of Khaleesi the Service Dog by Amelia Willows ed.

Khaleesi is a full-blooded German Shepherd puppy that her human mother is training to be a hearing-assist dog. Khaleesi narrates the story to pass on her mother's wisdom, which has come from surviving a difficult childhood. That wisdom includes faith, living in the moment, positivity and love for nature.

Khaleesi uses those lessons to nurture Roger, an abused rescue dog that Khaleesi meets at Finnigan's Dog Park. With Khaleesi's help, Roger turns from being negative to having a positive outlook on life. The two of them together pass on the ways of positive living to other dogs.

The story is complicated by the high jinks of Khaleesi's two cat brothers. Khaleesi also makes visits to her dog cousins, a bird sanctuary and a nature preserve.

,p> The story is intended for readers between grades 4 and 6. Encouraging words are given for children who may be facing difficult circumstances.
