Recorded shortly before he moved to Europe, this spirited hard bop set features
Art Farmer leading an all-star quintet with tenor saxophonist
Jimmy Heath, pianist
Cedar Walton, bassist
Walter Booker and drummer
Mickey Roker. Ten of the twelve numbers were recorded at a live concert (the other two were cut slightly later in the studios), and this two-LP set increases the original release from seven to twelve cuts.
Farmer is particularly inspired on the ballads, including
"The Shadow of Your Smile," and the highlights also include "Make Someone Happy," "On the Trail" and "Blue Bossa." Hopefully, the music on this 1982 two-fer will appear on CD. ~ Scott Yanow
