Overview

Henry James' famous tale is one of the most frequently interpreted works of modern literature. The ghost story is as stunning as it is enigmatic: in the convivial circle of a fireside gathering at an English country estate, the notes of a deceased governess are read aloud, who as a young woman was the governess of two well educated, parentless children. These two, a boy and his little sister, prove to be well behaved, but after a few weeks of their stay, the young governess has apparitions. Ghosts, in her opinion - on the sprawling country estate that she considers extremely threatening to the children. To her supreme confusion, the little ones themselves seem to be mysteriously in contact with the apparitions. The governess's attempts to break the spirits' influence end in disaster.
