Overview

What is it that makes trees so inspiring? Is it because they can be ancient, majestic, atmospheric, sinister and beautiful, all at once? In this paranormal short story collection, every story is set in the Forest of Dean, a wonderful landscape in the South West of England, a magical forest which attracts thousands of visitors every year. Find out why a young widow needed help from a mysterious visitor, how a deer culler got his comeuppance, why a young mother ran away to write names on trees, why a little girl used her healing powers and how a ghost child was set free. Each story uses the atmospheric forest landscape like an emotional mirror, where landscape and feelings are intertwined.

About the Author

Holman's love of the fantastical and the unusual stems from early childhood, when she loved to withdraw into imaginary worlds. In all her writing, whether stories or scripts, she likes to explore the possibilities that lie outside and alongside the real world. She studied Creative Arts at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Polytechnic and continued to write as a hobby while working as a music, drama and English teacher. In 1995 she left her native North East of England and headed to the Forest of Dean, in Gloucestershire. She has written three books: 'The Wishing Sisters & Other Forest Tales' short story collection (2008), the children's story 'Footprints in the Snow' (2015) and 'The Knocking' (2017). All three books are inspired by the fifteen years she spent in the atmospheric Forest area.
