About the Author

Karen Bowen holds a master's degree in advanced teaching and a bachelor's degree in business administration. She is an accomplished educator with over two decades of teaching experience. Now retired, she reads to her grandsons, walks with them through the Cascade Mountains, and writes children's books. For most of Karen's childhood, she was actively involved in Scouting. She distinctly remembers the patriotism and respect she experienced as her troop held a retirement ceremony for a worn-out flag. She is the proud mother of a US Marine. Her goal in writing this book is to pass her knowledge and feelings of patriotism on to the next generation.

Olha Tkachendo was born in Ukraine and graduated from the School of Fine Arts, studying classical drawing, painting, sculpture, and art history.
