Overview

Tizen is an open-source Linux-based software platform for a variety of devices, from smartphones and watches to in-vehicle infotainment. Application development is based on open standards and HTML5 is the primary development technology. The Tizen project creates new business opportunities for mobile and embedded applications as it is supported by a Technical Steering Group (TSG) composed of Samsung and Intel. Samsung has recently announced a shift from Android to Tizen, and Tizen-based applications will soon be known as path breakers.

Starting with a detailed description of using the Tizen SDK, you will delve into Tizen development on Linux, Windows, and MacOS with this book. You will learn to use the Tizen IDE and move on to use the Web and Device emulator that will help you get started with this magnificent platform.

It is important to note that Tizen is much more than just a mobile platform; you will discover its rich and varied ecosystem and learn how to post your application on the Tizen Store.

A successful application needs to have an impressive UI and you will learn how to draw 2D and 3D objects on HTML5 Canvas with Tizen followed by a detailed tutorial on how data can be stored in file, local storage, and on web SQL databases.

You will then stride ahead to create stunning multimedia application programs rich with audio, video, image capturing, and other features. Tizen is perfect for web application development and you will learn this by building social media apps for Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Moving ahead you will get a glimpse into task management with Tizen and will learn to utilize the Address Book and Calendar.

You will next gain an understanding of Tizen’s communication capabilities, exploring how SMS, Bluetooth, and Near Field Communication(NFC) work with Tizen. You will then learn about navigation sensors like GPS, thus enabling you develop high-end mobile apps with a vast range of utilities.

Finally you will learn precisely how the applications you've created can be debugged. Tizen has an innate ability to run existing apps from other platforms like Android and you will take a closer look at this in the subsequent chapters.

The recipes in this book are invaluable in helping you explore and optimize the exceptionally capable and cool Tizen Project platform to develop breathtaking mobile and web applications.
