Totfinder - Volume II: Lexicon Brasiliensis - Volume 2 - English - Portuguese
LEXICON BRASILIENSIS aims at providing a tool that will enable those engaged in the task of translating any text to find the most suitable equivalent to the words or phrases in question. As the name of the dictionary makes evident, emphasis was placed on the Portuguese as it is spoken in Brazil, although a great many entries bear indication to their form in European Portuguese. LEXICON BRASILIENSIS is the paper version of TOTFinder "Traducetur Omnium" Translation Finder, an equivalence finder to support the task of translating from Portuguese into English and vice-versa, which was originally produced as an electronic dictionary. This printing of LEXICON BRASILIENSIS (English-Portuguese section) contains nearly 46,000 entries and subentries and covers a variety of fields. It also includes idioms, colloquilisms, figurative meanings, slangs, and regionalisms. It is broadly known that some times no equivalence exists within a given context and that the various influences suffered by the Brazilian Portuguese from native and African languages give rise to additional difficulties, especially in the realms of Cookery, Zoology, Botany, and Religion. Some of these appear at times to be almost unsurmountable. For this reason, LEXICON BRASILIENSIS will try, whenever possible, to provide, in addition to the direct translation, explanation for the meaning of those hard-to-translate words and phrases.
