Overview

Endoscopic neurosurgery has not yet reached the safety and applicability of microsurgery. Endo-neuro-sonography is a new technique aimed at making endoscopy safer by real-time imaging and navigation capacity (brain-radar). The endo-neurosonographic image is a sonographic scan at the tip of the endoscope (mini-CT) providing additional information to the endoscopic view. Endo-Neuro-Sonography is the first book on this new topic, presenting techniques and equipment, anatomical features, and the first clinical series. Schematic drawings, tables and 237 figures (122 in color) offer a precise overview of this technique. The final chapter is dealing with future concepts on minimally invasive neurosurgery and specific reference to ergonomics in neurosurgery.

About the Author

Dr. Resch und Professor Perneczky et al have been among the first to have published several papers demonstrating in cadavers the usefulness of Endo-neuro-surgery as a real time imaging tool in neuroendoscopy.

They have also received the 1st 1997 Rudolf Schindler Award for video demonstrating this technique. Dr. Resch is an endoscopic neurosurgeon particularly know for his extremely good knowledge of the anatomy of the brain.

Features: Five chapters help in deciphering the topic of neuroendoscopic ultrasound technology, from its basics, clinical applications, drawbacks, and future directions. The highlights of the book are the large amount of illustrations, most of them in color, the clarity with which the text is written, and the direct anatomical correlations. Since this is not a profusely developed technology, there are no points to criticize. The companion DVD helps clarify some of the nuances of the new promising technology.
Assessment: This is a good book for large academic institutions where neuroendoscopy is a well used technology.
