But as they cautiously make their way toward Colorado over less traveled routes, they find there's no way to avoid the disaster's far reaching effects. Everyone is desperate to survive, and a traveling group of well-stocked refugees is seen as an easy and vital target. This story also includes the traveling survival experience of Mark, John's other close friend from San Antonio. As the last holdout from the early warning email sent by John (Curtain Fall), Mark leaves home after a vicious and deadly gang battle. With only a mountain bike, and a few well-thought out supplies, Mark heads north in hopes of finding and joining up with Pete and John. His journey is also fraught with danger and misunderstanding, and several unanticipated encounters push the limits of his mental and physical endurance to new levels.
