Audience: The book will be a valuable resource of anatomical information for veterinary students and practitioners. It meets the needs of the intended audience.
Features: The book contains a unique introductory chapter that starts with an account of the history of veterinary anatomy. The authors take a systemic approach to describe anatomical structures and have added a chapter on topographic clinical anatomy that includes some clinically important superficial landmarks. In addition to schematic representation of anatomical structures, the book contains images of anatomical specimens as well as diagnostic CT and MRI images. The anatomical terminology is stated in both English and Latin and matches that of the World Association of Veterinary Anatomists' Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria. This edition contains a new chapter on avian anatomy, which is a valuable source for veterinary students or practitioners looking for a concise guide on fundamental anatomical features of birds. It is written at a practicable level taught at most veterinary schools.
Assessment: The book is a useful resource for anatomical information, but its detailed contents and organizational scheme may be overwhelming to students. The images are of excellent quality and are helpful aids for understanding anatomical organization; however, there are not enough for the book to be considered an atlas. This is one of the few veterinary anatomy books that contains detailed species-specific anatomical information of commonly studied domestic animals.
