I recently purchased Webster's Concise Spanish Dictionary after my old Spanish Dictionary that I had since college in the early 90's took a dive from my bookshelf and busted apart. I am pleased to say that this dictionary is very comprehensive. The way each entry elaborates takes a bit getting used to and I have to reference the "Structure of Entries" section from time to time for clarification. The real bonus with this dictionary is an additional small section called the Spanish Communication Guide. It helps you with the colloquial way to send emails in Spanish and other business communications. I have to dig deep and use my Spanish education from many years ago in order to send Spanish language emails for work projects and I found this extra section very helpful. Plus there is reference for "arranging a meeting", "writing an advertisement" and "text messaging" in Spanish. All very relevant for today's world.
I've been able to find all the words I've looked up so far.
I teach English to adults. To my students I recommend a bilingual dictionary that as a minimum should include phonetics, word function, irregular verbs and irregular plurals. The dictionary should also be up-to-date. This dictionary meets all of these requirements plus it's reasonably priced, portable and its printing and binding are very good. Excellent basic learning and reference tool!
I have many Spanish/English dictionaries, but I find myself turning to this one most often. It gives many great examples of how words are used, as well as common phrases. Very useful!
