Gracie and her friend Daniel have always been warned to stay away from the Birdman and his side of the island. But then they find a message in the sand and discover the Birdman is not who they thought. They build up a lovely friendship with him, but when the children get stranded on Samson Island they don’t know whether to believe the birdman’s story that the island is cursed. Set against the backdrop of World War I, in the tradition of Friend or Foe and Private Peaceful Michael Morpurgo brings the emotional reality of conflict to life in a way that is accessible to younger readers.

Why The Whales Came will set a curse on you. Why The Whales Came is about two friends called Daniel and Gracie. Their moms and dads always have warned them to stay away from the Birdman. Afterwards they find out the Birdman is not so crazy after all. He tells them about the curse that is laid on Samson and tells them never to go there. But when they get lost in fog at night they end up laying on Samson and when they return home they find out that the curse of Samson is real. My favorite part was when Daniel and Gracie find out that the Birdman is a really nice and normal person with a sad past. I would recommend this book to all Micheal Morpugo lovers. All people who like books with a lot of twists and turns. People who like books with curses and magic. And of course for all whale lovers.

Why the whales came is about a boy and a girl called Gracie and Daniel. The story starts when they wanted to sail the toy sailboats in the pool but then swans took over the pool. Then they wanted to find somewhere else so they went to rushy bay and found the Bird Man. They found out that the Bird Man cant really put curses on people. Then they hear of a tragic death. If you want to know more go read the book. I would rate this book 3 stars out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book for teachers to read aloud to their students.

Why the whales came is a mix of fantasy and fiction. It¿s about a girl and boy called Gracie and Daniel who love to sail, but one day swans take over their sailing place so they move on to a place that they dread to go to, the lake near the bird man¿s house! Everyone says he is an evil man who can put a curse on you! I liked the words the author used in this book, it made me want to read more. I liked the book in the ending, it was so dramatic and I wanted to find out more! When I started the book I actually wasn¿t that keen on it because all it told about was how Gracie and Daniel loved to sail but when I got to the ending it was very exciting! I advise you to read this book if you want to find out if the bird man is actually evil or not!

This book was about a cursed island called Samson and there was a man who was called Birdman. He was a child when Samson became cursed. His friends Daniel and Gracie was the only thing he loved and had. They really believed him and helped him. My favorite character is the birdman because he was very brave when Big Tim wanted to kill the whales. I liked the book because there was a big adventure! Like mysteries and secrets... Read this book NOW!

This book was about a girl, named Gracie and a boy, named Daniel who wants to sail where they usually do but the water is all covered with seagulls so they go to Samson island where it is supposedly cursed. But after Gracie's dad goes off to war Gracie and Daniel go sailing and while they were sailing there was a storm. My favorite character was Gracie and Daniel because they both do what I love to do, sailing! What I liked about this book was that it was all about sailing! I recommend this book to people who like adventure stories because the book is all about Gracie and Daniel having an adventure.

Why the Whales came is an exciting, nerve racking and emotional book about a curious little girl named Gracie and her trusty partner and friend from across the road, Daniel. In this interesting realistic fiction Gracie and Daniel discover that a so-called bad man is not so bad at all. When they foolishly go out fishing a great amount of fog blows over leading them onto a small feared island named Samson... After a fair amount of time they get back from Samson but will anything have changed while they were away? I highly recommend this book to all ages and especially those people that like a mixture of fiction, reality and a little bit of action. I liked this book a lot and I'm sure anyone who reads it will like it just as much as me.

The book is like fantasy because it's about a cursed island called Samson. This book takes place at the Isles of Scilly, at the times when there still was war. What I like about the author's writing style in the book is how he makes the climax, the most exciting part at the end! My favourite part of the story was when they made friends with the birdman, knowing that he was not mad like the villagers said. I recommend the book to anyone who likes to read about olden times and how they managed to live without technology. If you are curious to know if the birdman was ever trusted, read the book and you will find the answer.

Soon she finds out that she has been adopted by an American Indian woman called Earth Woman. Molly makes many friends in her fight to freedom and she soon finds out that she can feel just as at home with the indians as she did with her birth family.
