"Hooray! Another chance to join Kate Nielson as she uses the gritty street smarts of her difficult past and the assurance of her unfolding faith to find her way and protect the ones she loves. In Winds of Freedom, Rebecca Carey Lyles has once again created authentic characters who confront real-life intrigue and adventure in today's Wild West. From the mountains of Wyoming to the sordid underside of Dallas, Kate and her friends make their way with humor, passion, gentle love and tough determination-and like their Savior, they never leave a friend behind. Winds of Freedom is an exciting and moving sequel of loss and redemption, and like Winds of Wyoming, this book will leave readers wanting more of Kate Nielson and more of Rebecca Carey Lyles's fiction."

"Winds of Freedom by Rebecca Lyles is not only an entertaining read, it is another courageous assault on the hideous crime of human trafficking. I applaud the author's willingness to tackle this topic and to help educate us in the depth of its evil. Awareness is the first step in setting the captives free-and then the challenge to each of us to get involved. Together we can make a difference! Do not miss this excellent book!"

Reviewed by Deborah Stone for Readers' Favorite In the riveting novel, Winds of Freedom by Rebecca Carey Lyles, Kate and Mike Duncan battle extreme situations in an effort to save all that they care about. Together with Mike's widowed mother, Laura, they run a bison/guest ranch, Whispering Pines, in Wyoming. Kate's Aunt Mary is moved to the ranch because of her dementia, and at times it is difficult to determine if her observations are real or imagined. Amidst concerns about running the ranch and taking care of Aunt Mary and a neighboring rancher trying to gain control of Whispering Pines, Kate's best friend, Amy, disappears and Kate fears that she has been abducted. Kate is determined to find her. As Mike and Kate head off to Dallas, Texas to find Amy, they encounter the evil and dangers that surround her, and Laura is left to take care of the ranch and Aunt Mary. Rebecca Carey Lyles' characters range from simple and sweet to vile and dangerous. As Mike and Kate search for their friend, the limits of friendship and faith are put to the test. Rebecca Carey Lyles demonstrates clearly and concisely through her characters how loyalty, faith and obedience to God can have life changing consequences. We also see how the same is true for disobedience and ignoring God's will. As we go deeper into the evil and depravity of Amy's situation and understand Kate's resolve to help her friend, we get a glimpse of the power, mercy and faithfulness of a loving God. An excellent book that I could not put down. Well written, great story and characters, with a strong Christian message. Great job!
When you find yourself stalking an author’s web site to follow the progress of their next book’s release, it’s a sure sign you are hooked on their work. Such is the case for me with author Rebecca Carey Lyles and her Kate Neilson Series. Winds of Freedom, the second book in the series, is a well-written story with the wonderfully developed characters we met in the first book, Winds of Wyoming. The compelling plot takes the reader from the relative tranquility of the Whispering Pines ranch in Wyoming to the dark and forbidding world of evil hidden in the depths of the city of Dallas. As Kate, with the assistance of others, including her husband Mike, searches for her friend Amy, she comes face to face with past fear and foundering faith. Conflict and drama abound at home in Wyoming as Mike’s Mom, Laura, seeks to find what she believes she needs the most. Add the sweet innocence of Kate’s Alzheimer’s infected Aunt Mary, and you have a story that tugs at the heart and nourishes the spirit In the midst of all the turmoil she creates in her characters’ lives, Rebecca Carey Lyles brings home the message that God remains faithful, even during our darkest and most difficult times of struggle. She demonstrates the steadfastness of God’s love without forceful preaching. Rebecca’s Kate Neilson series, along with a couple of her other books, have launched her to the top of my “favorite author” list.
