This is a second edition of a basic science monograph that deals with physiologic concerns of female athletes. This book intends to explore the medical issues encountered in female athletes. These issues are addressed, but are dealt with primarily on a basic science level. The book is intended for physicians and basic scientists, but concentrates heavily on basic science. The orthopedic section is weak. The references are up-to-date, but the paucity of illustrations makes the book appear dull. Although the title is appealing, this is basically a physiology text dealing with female athletes. A second edition to deal with these topics was probably not necessary.
