World War II in Europe:

World War II in Europe: "America Goes to War"

by R. Conrad Stein

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 6 Up-A succinct survey. Stein commences with a reprise of the opening shots on the Polish frontier in 1939 and takes a quick look at Nazi Germany's origins and subsequent ``lightning war'' across Europe. Coverage moves quickly onward to the attack on Pearl Harbor, Germany's declaration of war on America, through V-E Day and the conclusion of hostilities with Japan. While this effort contains no new information, has archival black-and-white photos that are available in many extant works, and maps that are rudimentary at best, it does have the interest-holding and informative prose befitting such an introductory title. Furthermore, Stein has appended a useful chronology, detailed chapter notes, a short list of books for further reading, and a helpful index; these features add greatly to the book's value.-David A. Lindsey, Lakewood Junior/Senior High School, WA
