About the Author

Michael Berger has taught writing in college and high school for twenty years. In 2014 he received a Diana Hacker Award for Outstanding Programs in English from the Two Year College English Association (TYCA) of the National Council of Teachers of English for developing a writing-across-the-curriculum program in a nursing college. His work with high school students has been recognized with a Leaders in Literacy Award from Cincinnati Public Schools and an Outstanding Teacher Award for high school teachers from the University of Chicago. He has taught literature and humanities surveys as well as composition and is currently professor of English and Communications at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the author of several published articles, past editor of the Thoreau Society Bulletin, and author of the book Thoreau's Late Career and "The Dispersion of Seeds": The Saunterer's Synoptic Vision. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Cincinnati, an M.A. in English from Indiana University, and a B.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John's College.
