I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed with the narration of Xavier Cold. Had I read the story instead of listening to the audio book, I may have enjoyed it more. The narrators will make or break a story; where I liked Alexandria Wilde’s performance, Sean’s threw me off a bit. At times, I didn’t feel like he was invested in the characters, and was just reading a script. The format of switching narrators when the POV changes and having each narrator read all the characters is off putting. I have to get used to two Anna’s and two Xavier’s. I prefer the stories when we have one narrator, or we have the narrators exchange dialog based on the gender of the characters. The overall story was good; we pick up where Phenomenal X left off, and he just got arrested for nearly killing Rex in his last wrestling match. The sex scenes between Xavier and Anna are downright scorching; however, the story is just so eye rolling dramatic at times, I’m like “oh brother, REALLY!” Again, I’m not sure if I would have picked up on this so much had I been reading it instead of listening to it. I found myself asking my husband if wrestling was fake, so the high drama would go right along with the high drama of wrestling. Yet; at the same time the story is thoroughly entertaining, and I even found myself tearing up a time or two, drama be dammed. I am giving Xavier Cold: Hard Knocks Series #2, 3 boundless Stars, it was good....Sara

Xavier Cold lost control and now he may lose everything he has worked so hard to keep. While his life is falling apart around him all he has is his love for Anna Cortez. The only woman who could ever get to the heart of him. But can he keep her? Should he be selfish and keep her in his life or should he do the honorable thing and let her go? Anna Cortez has tried to get Xavier the man who stole her heart and made her whole to get past his demons. He only gives her bits and pieces of his past but little by little she plans to get all of him. She wants a future where he trusts her enough to let her in. When Xavier loses control during a wrestling match and is suspended Anna is afraid she will lose him. There is nothing she can but try to hold onto him with both hands. To fight for him even when he won’t fight for himself. My review – Xavier Cold starts off where Phenomenal X ended. Xavier is arrested for beating up his rival in a wrestling match gone out of control. He is immediately suspended. Lost without his job to keep him grounded he clings to his new found love for Anna even more. When they head back to Detroit and he is forced to face the demons from his past Xavier makes some decisions that aren’t necessarily what is best for him or his relationship with Anna. He’s hurting and dealing with a lot of emotions he has kept under wraps for a long time. Then add in getting hassled in his old neighborhood by the local thugs he used to work with and it’s no wonder Xavier had a hard time keeping his control. I thought this story was full of emotion dealing with childhood abuse and its effects in a very big way. Anna and Xavier were great together and even when they were apart I felt the deep love they had for each other. There was danger and a few surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat. I definitely recommend the series, Xavier is a sexy as sin, broken man in need of a good woman to help him pick up the pieces and Anna is just that. Michelle Valentine did a great job giving the fans of Xavier and Anna the closure needed. RECEIVED AN ARC IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.

The end to this 2 book series leaves me wanting more. I can't get enough of these two characters!! Xavier learns a lot to temper his anger and get rid of some of his demons he fights. Anna helps him see himself in a different and good light! Things finally come together for Xavier and Anna the way they should. I would like to have seen more from the epilogue with these two so who knows, maybe we will get another book or a novella for the characters again. Overall these two books took me by surprise being about a professional wrestler. I would highly recommend these two to anyone looking for the right amount of angst, love, romance, and a little dirty sex.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review. This is one of those books that you become so engrossed in the story that you loose track of time. Gritty, raw, intense, powerful, and beautiful, Xavier Cold is a story of how true love can survive obstacles and make you stronger and that somethings in life are worth fighting for. Filled with deception, corruption, cruelty, murder, secrets, lies, suspense, heartbreak, drama, romance, lust, love, and of course some hot, steamy sex, Michelle A. Valentine will have you hanging on the edge of your seat.

"What are you doing to me, beautiful? You're changing me in ways I never thought possible." Author Michelle Valentine left readers with one whopper of a cliffhanger in PHENOMENAL X, the kind that has you staring at the page thinking 'What the HECK just happened? Are you kidding me? I have to wait HOW long to find out what's next?!' Yeah, that kind of a cliffhanger. Suffice to say that XAVIER COLD, the second book in Michelle's Hard Knocks series, was heavily anticipated by fans of the first book, and well worth the wait. The rivalry between Xavier Cold and Rex 'The Assassin' Risen, wrestlers for the Tension group, has reached an all-time high. Having lost control in the ring, Xavier finds himself banned from all things Tension for three months. Determined to keep his suspension from destroying their relationship, Xavier and Anna return to Detroit, X's childhood home, and the dwelling place of all of his personal demons. But the road to happily ever after is not an easy one, and these two have their work cut out for them. Where PHENOMENAL X is the story of the beginning of Anna's and Xavier's relationship, this book is about overcoming the things that keep us from being the best version of ourselves, and creating our own reality. It's about their love for each other, and the freedom that this kind of love offers. And, finally, it's about the redemption that comes through such unconditional love. I could not read this book quickly enough. It's full of grittiness and intrigue, secrets that are jaw-dropping, and the kind of love that completely changes the landscape of lives. 4.5 phenomenal stars for XAVIER COLD, and kudos to Michelle Valentine for another awesome read.

OMG if you have read the first book Phenomenal X and want to know what happens next then you NEED to read this book! It started right where the last one ended and we get to see what Xavier is thinking and how he is reacting. The story progresses and we get to find out more about Xavier's past and everything he went through to get to where he was. There are also lots difficult things that both Xavier and Anna had to go through both together and somethings that they had to get through on their own. There are some turns that you will not see coming but this book will not disappoint. Michelle Valentine does not disappoint when it comes to Xavier Cold! This was a great book and I am so glad that I read this book! I finished this book in one sitting and I was not disappointed in how it ended. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Xavier Cold picks up where Phenomenal X leaves off. Xavier is fighting his demons from his childhood that has left him scarred. Anna Cortez is the only woman who has ever mattered to him and he will do anything to be with her, even when forces beyond his control do everything to keep them apart. Will he finally conquer his demons and make a life with Anna, or are the forces fighting against him too strong to conquer? You will have to read it to find out. I really enjoyed this book. This was a 4.5 Star read for me. Michelle has done a wonderful job giving us the ending we so desperately needed to Phenomenal X.

3.75 stars--XAVIER COLD is the second installment in Michelle A. Valentine’s contemporary, adult HARD KNOCKS erotic romance duology focusing on professional wrestler Xavier Cold, and the woman he loves Anna Cortez. XAVIER COLD should not be read as a stand alone because the story line picks up immediately upon the events and cliff hanger of book one-PHENOMENAL X. Told from dual first person points of view (Anna and Xavier) the focus continues on the relationship between Anna and X, but also on the repercussions of his beat down of an opponent who pushed one too many of Xavier’s buttons. To appease his boss in the Tension Wrestling Association, Xavier agrees to a three month suspension wherein Anna finds herself playing a larger role in the professional wrestling arena that pushes Xavier close to the edge. What ensues is Xavier and Anna’s return to Detroit where Xavier’s past demons continue to rear their ugly and dangerous heads. XAVIER COLD was a bit of a frustrating read as our leading couple continued to place themselves in danger; in harm’s way; and in the direct line of fire. The stupidity of their choices is a bone of contention for this reader as it related to the reality of their situation. There was something about Xavier’s childhood home that pushed all of our couple’s buttons, and in the end, they still opted to remain in a house that held too many bad memories and heartbreaking secrets. Any opportunity for safe housing was refused one too many times and our couple paid a price for their stubborn pride. Xavier’s earlier years will break your heart. The relationship between Xavier and Anna continues to take a battering from both inside and out. Xavier’s suspension meant too much time away from the woman he loves, and with it comes the realization that Anna may be better of without X by her side. There is plenty of push and pull; heartbreak and sorrow; regret and second chances. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense. All of the previous secondary and supporting characters return in Xavier Cold including X’s number one enemy both in and out of the ring Rex the ‘Assassin’. Rex’s role in Xavier’s suspension becomes much more than a professional altercation but a threat to his relationship with Anna as well. Old ‘demons’ from Xavier’s earlier days are front and center with X and Anna’s return to Detroit when threats against Anna are taken seriously by our leading man. XAVIER COLD is a story about a man who struggles from within. A champion in the ring but a frightened boy when the reality of life threatens to take away the only things he has ever loved. The premise is intriguing and suspenseful; the characters are definitely colorful and charismatic; the romance is a fight to the finish. There are moments of heartbreak and betrayal; vengeance and pain; loving and letting go. My one issue was the neatly wrapped conclusion to the story line conflict and Xavier’s childhood demons-too clean, too neat, too cut and dry in the final few pages of the story.

I'm pleased on how things went with this story. And I was surprised to notice how much both Anna and Xavier have evolved. Very good read!

I received a advance copy of this book by the author in exchange for a honest review. Phenomenal X is finally back!!!! And he is ready FIGHT but not in the ring. X is at the top of his career and has Anna at his side. But he is about to lose it all because of his temper and a past that haunts him. Anna has never loved anyone like she has loved this larger then life wrestler. But will loving him be enough? Will she be able to convince him that he is worth being loved? Will Xavier's past destroy the only thing he has ever loved? I have been waiting to get my hands on this book since I finished the first book. And it is finally here!! It was so worth the wait!!! Michelle delivered a great story filled with so much emotion. I found myself laughing, crying, and angry. I loved the characters she created and the connection they had throughout the book and how she kept adding in the holy crap moments. LOL!! It was hard to put down!!! Xavier Cold is a very sexy, emotional, jaw dropping read!

I have to say this book was perfect. It started off right where the last one ended and we finally get some answers to why X is the way he is. It's a true love story with all the fun parts and all the hard parts. I'd love to see more to this series but if not i'm happy with the way it finished. I adore this author and highly recommend to give her a read. Plus who doesn't like to invision Roman Reigns when they are reading a story...HOT!!

**I received an ARC for an honest review.** I binge read both books of this series and I really enjoyed them. I loved all the changes that Anna brought out of X in this book, so much more turn around for him than in the first. Anna really changed in this book too and I loved that she stood her ground no matter how much it hurt. All the changes that both characters had in book two made me love their characters all the more. There is a lot revealed about X's past in this book and some of it was a bitter pill to swallow. This book didn't stop revealing things until the very end and some of the truths revealed were exactly what X needed to start to heal. By the end of this book I was so happy that Anna and X were able to move toward a better life, but what a bumpy road they traveled to get there. I don't want to give any spoilers so I will have to cut this off pretty quickly. If you read Phenomenal X and you want to know what happens in Xavier Cold then you MUST BUY this book. This book made blew Phenomenal X out of the water. It is filled with so much more emotion and heartache, some action and suspense is also thrown in, but overall it is filled with love. It takes a few twists and turns for all characters to find the closure that they need and crave, but it is oh so sweet when they find it.

Man! What a way to end the series! After the long wait for book 2 to be released, X and Anna fans will be shocked and happy with how the book ties everything up. There were some serious highs and lows, lots of drama, and OH SH*T moments! There were times I wanted to strangle X and Anna, then at others, I just wanted to hug them and tell them all would be well if they kept fighting for what they wanted. X had so many AWWWWWWW moments it made my heart happy! Don't get me wrong, he still had moments where I wanted to nut-punch him and shake some sense into him, but that just means Michelle did her job. She made me FEEL! Anna grew in her strength and stood up for what she wanted, and I wanted to shout in triumph when she didn't back down, even if it meant she'd lose X. All in all, it was a really good read! ARC received for an honest review.

Almost two years ago, Michelle Valentine combined two worlds and I fell hard. Reading is a passion of mine and I’ve been known from time to time to sit with my boys and watch wrestling. The Rock was a character that I quickly grew to hate and love at the same time. Michelle gave us Xavier and boy was I happy. I loved Phenomenal X and patiently waited for the rest of X and Anna’s story. Michelle did not disappoint me with the explosive finale to this series. I love a broken hero, and X is just that. Wonderfully written, he is all alpha, and sin. His broken parts are just enough to give him character. He’s fierce, strong, and one hell of a competitor. Everyone has flaws. His make him even more loveable. I absolutely love how Anna is portrayed. You would think a character with her background who lived a sheltered life would be fragile and easily wounded. But not Anna. No, she is one strong female who knows who she is, what she wants and she doesn’t give up. I just want to yell, “You Go Girl!”. I really like how she is written and I’m glad she stood up for herself, even when it hurt. Overall, I loved the storyline. It stayed true to the first book and had me reading the last bit with bated breath. That was a killer ending.

Phenomenal X is the stage name of professional wrestler, Xavier Cold. Anna Cortez has stolen his heart, and they’re making their way through life. A bad decision puts Xavier and Anna back in Detroit, and Xavier is forced to face a past he thought he left behind. We learn more about Xavier’s younger life, and it’s heartbreaking. The fact that he survived his childhood and made something of himself should make him happy, but Xavier still hears those voices of his past, and thinks maybe he doesn’t deserve any of the happiness he’s found both professionally and personally. But Anna isn’t letting him fall into despair. She’s determined to show him what a beautiful man he is, and how lucky she is to have him. All the while trying to reconcile the fact that she may never see her family again because of her father’s twisted sense of right and wrong, and her determination to forge her own path, and make her own decisions about her happiness. Xavier Cold is the second book in the Hard Knocks series. It’s the long-awaited conclusion of this troubled man with a big heart. You get to see everyone from the first book, and meet some new folks—some good, some not so good. Michelle has told a very heartbreaking, and at the same time beautiful story of how a little boy, angry at the world, survives life on the streets of Detroit, and dreams of being the world wrestling champion. My emotions were all over the place with this story. I received this ARC for an honest review, and I give it 5 stars.
