Overview

"Dar" – posledniy i samyy dlinnyy roman Vladimira Nabokova, napisannyy na russkom yazyke. Po suti, "Dar" – eto metaroman, literatura o literature. V nem Nabokov pokazyvaet zhizn teksta – ego zachatie, rozhdenie i vzaimodeystvie s drugimi tekstami. Glavnyy geroy romana, Fedor Godunov-CHerdyntsev, – russkiy emigrant v Berline, nachinayuschiy poet v poiskah svoego pisatelskogo "ya". V knige net peripetiy kak takovyh, syuzhet predstavlyaet soboy vnutrennyuyu rabotu Fedora, osmyslenie proshlogo i prevraschenie etih vospominaniy v poeziyu. V "Dare" mnogo avtobiograficheskogo, nesmotrya na namerennoe otritsanie Nabokovym vsyakoy svyazi s geroem. Pisatel zashifrovyvaet v romane sobytiya svoego berlinskogo perioda, detstvo, vstrechu s zhenoy, lyubov k materi, smert ottsa. Nichto ne skazano napryamuyu, no za vymyshlennym syuzhetom chetko prosmatrivaetsya sudba samogo Nabokova.

About the Author

Born in Russia, Vladimir Nabokov (1899-1977) had a penchant for writing about the tragic and the taboo in his books, especially the still-controversial Lolita. In 1919, his family left Russia for Western Europe, and eventually settled in the United States. Although his first works were written in Russian, he became famous for his novels like Pale Fire that he wrote in English. Nabokov's erudite, inventive approach to writing — buttressed by his formidable academic and cultural intellect — made him a literary legend.
