The book starts with the computer basics including hardware, operating systems, command line tools and remote access. Then it covers the basic cloud terminology and goes into details about the core cloud services like compute, storage and networking. IaaS as well as PaaS services from those three categories are explained. Then, the book explains the basics of cloud APIs and how to create RESTful APIs. It briefly goes into the ways you can manage agile projects and explains the DevOps processes in the enterprises. After that it covers the operational side of cloud computing including logging, monitoring and alerting. At the end, it describes other cloud services like machine learning, cognitive services, IoT and bots and finishes with details about the cost of using cloud services.

This book can be used as a textbook to teach introductory classes in cloud computing. Instructors can use it to teach the theoretical part and assign labs to students. The labs are structured with milestones that can be used for grading purposes. Students can use this book to gain background in the cloud technologies and have initial experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services. People who are switching careers and want to get their feet wet with cloud technologies can use this book to learn the basics and experience with Azure. Also, professionals who are familiar with other cloud vendors can use this book to learn the Microsoft Azure services.

The book is structured gradually and builds up with every chapter. Labs and exercises assume that the labs and exercises from the previous chapter are completed. About the Author

Toddy Mladenov is a CTO of Agitare Technologies, Inc., a boutique consulting and product company in Redmond, WA that specializes in cloud technologies. He started his journey in Internet technologies back in 1993 as a student in the Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria. Since graduating in 1996, he held roles in hardware and software development and design for companies like 3Com, Nemetschek, SAP, and Microsoft as well as various startups.
Before he started at Microsoft in 2005, his experience was designing applications using Open Source technologies and deploying those on UNIX-based systems like IBM AIX, Linux and Sun Solaris. His career in Microsoft started in the MSN/Windows Live division where he was responsible for managing a team of Program Managers who worked on defining the customer support experience for MSN/Windows Live properties. His team developed the services handling every support question request from MSN/Windows Live customer as well as the community forums and the self-service portals.
Because of the success of their project, the team was acquired by Windows Client division, where they were responsible for shaping the in-client help and support experience for Windows 7.
His journey in the cloud started in 2009 while Microsoft Azure was still in the preview phase. As a member of the early Azure team, he was responsible for various areas of the customer and developer experience in Azure. Starting with the developer APIs, going through the sing-up experience and the management portal, and ending with the Open Source experience for PHP, Java and Python developers, Toddy touched almost every part of the Azure platform.
In 2012, Toddy left Microsoft to join the private cloud startup Apprenda, where he worked with a customer like JP Morgan Chase and McKesson to deploy Apprenda’s proprietary container solution in their private datacenters.
In 2014, he co-founded Agitare Technologies, Inc. with the primary goal to help enterprises understand the latest cloud technologies and deploy performant and secure applications in the cloud. Under his leadership, AgitareTech differentiates from the other cloud consulting companies by offering solutions in cutting-edge technologies like Docker containers and Kubernetes, cognitive services, machine learning, and IoT.
