History of Lithuania. Part two
The first translation into Ukrainian of the Latin-language historiography of the early modern period by the Jesuit father, doctor of theology and professor of the Vilnius Academy Albert Viyuk Koyalovych (1609 — 1677) "History of Lithuania", part two — Historiae Lituanae pars altera... The work is the second part of the author's capital work and covers in detail the main events of two centuries of turbulent history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, when this state experienced the heyday of its power: from the reign of Skirgail Olherdovich in 1387 to the unification into one state with Poland and the death of King Sigismund Augustus in 1572 r. In a manner characteristic of his time, the author describes the vicissitudes of the struggle of contenders for the Grand Duke's table over the years, describes the noble seyms and complex relations with neighboring states, and also does not overlook the events of local life in the Russian lands of the state: in Severshchyna, Podilla, Volyn and Kyiv region and in White Russia. The motivation of the actions of the main characters depicted on the pages of this story was worked out by the author in good faith, although not too original. Numerous wars with the Crusaders, Tatars and Muscovites make up a significant part of the work. Diplomatic communications with Moscow princes are covered in great detail. The translation from Latin into Ukrainian was made according to the Antwerp edition of 1669. There is an index at the end of the book.
