About the Author

Little Feminist Press is an intersectional collective and indie publisher dedicated to creating and curating diverse, inclusive stories for young children. Their mission is to fill crucial gaps in children’s literature through anti-racist, body-positive, and LGBTQI+ books. They are located in Oakland, California. Ashley Jefferson is an accomplished early childhood educator and well-known play enthusiast who hails from Boston and currently lives near Atlanta. As a trailblazer in creating quality children’s programming and products, she brings over 20 years of diverse experience as an early-childhood teacher, museum curator, and performer. She is the visionary founder behind Play Plan Afrikan Kids, an initiative focused on early learning and outdoor education, and Nguzo Babies, a children’s edutainment brand that employs puppetry arts for storytelling. Her dedication to supporting families with young children is driven by a passion for restoring the beauty of childhood and enriching family pastimes. Dolisha Mitchell is a mom, author, and founder of the Black Kidlit Collective, a resource celebrating picture books by Black authors and illustrators. With over 10 years of experience in early-childhood education, she’s worked as a teacher, social-emotional learning coach, and curriculum developer. When not immersed in books, she enjoys dance parties with her toddler, cooking with her husband, and crafting. Mitchell holds an MA in teaching from the University of South Carolina and lives in Atlanta with her family.
