Agreement Among We The People
Agreement among We, the People is about We the People of the United States of America, Our Agreement and Our mutual Pledge. In other words, this book is about what it means to be a “true American.” The overall message of Our Agreement is “One for All, All for One”. Simply stated, this means that each individual member of We, the People has agreed to act for the benefit of all members of We, the People, and all Citizens have agreed to act for the benefit of each individual Citizen.
This is particularly true in the context of Our agreement that “all men are created equal”. Since Our founding, We have been dedicated to the preservation of equality for each new generation. Thus, Our governments’ reason for being is to secure the fulfillment of all human rights for all Citizens. Moreover, all of Our individual and collective lives, fortunes and sacred honor are pledged in support of Our agreements.
This may come as a surprise to many but it shouldn’t. Throughout history pharaohs, kings, queens, chiefs, and similar monarchs understood that each possessed control over their kingdom’s collective lives, fortunes and sacred honor in exchange for their ultimate authority based upon this understanding – “One for All, All for One”. Perhaps these words are more easily appreciated: the sovereign monarch serves and protects the people and the people serve and protect the sovereign monarch.
In 1776 Our founders realized that the source of all authority and power ultimately derived from the consent of people who consented to being governed in exchange for becoming part of a society. Consequently, the sovereign of the United States of America is We, the People, as one, united sovereign. From that moment forward, We became a beacon of light for life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and all other human rights for all men and women around the world. As the sovereign of the United States, each member and all members of We, the People have agreed to serve and protect each member and all members of We, the People. In other words, “One for All, All for One”.
Unfortunately, recent research by scholars such as Thomas Piketty, Martin Gilens, Benjamin Page, Dan Ariely, and Michael Norton, and even global corporations such as Citigroup Global Markets, Inc. reports to the general public that things have gone terribly wrong. They report that We are in breach of Our own Agreement.
America remains an economic, military and political giant. But when one looks below the aggregate numbers and other manifestations of power, the reality is very disturbing. For example, who are the primary beneficiaries of the hard work of the vast number of Americans who have contributed to these successes between 1776 and today? How have American resources been distributed? Are Our governments fulfilling their respective reason for existence to secure the fulfillment of all human rights for all Citizens? Are We Citizens fulfilling Our Agreement with one another?
As noted, things have gone terribly wrong! Today, America functions as “All for the 1%, and the 1% for the 1%”. This is the terrifying reality being reported by American and foreign scholars.
If you are familiar with the works of Piketty, Gilens, Page, Ariely, Norton, Citigroup and others, then you already know that America is facing many very serious challenges. Agreement among We, the People endeavors to ask and answer basic questions regarding Our challenges. While this may represent a good start, participation by other Citizens is essential to developing effective solutions.
Agreement among We, the People sets forth specific challenges and suggestions regarding how We might fulfill Our Agreement. It initiates the “true American” challenge: “May all true Americans come to know, understand, appreciate and fulfill our Agreement among We, the People”.
