"This book will make moms and kids feel appreciated and loved. It will make you laugh and make you cry. There are stories that will warm your heart and quotes that you will want to remember forever. Mom's the Word has a whole section devoted to Mother's Day, one that I found particularly familiar was "The Mother's Day Muddle" by Bruce Lansky: 1) Your children serve you breakfast in bed on Mother's Day; 2) They also spill coffee, burn the toast and wreck your kitchen; 3) You spend all afternoon cleaning up.This book is a wonderful way to celebrate all the moms in your life. Remember to thank them this weekend for their patience, devotion and love." -ôwa Gazette
"Mom's the Word celebrates the powerful role that mothers play in our lives and reminds us of the intense joy, frustration, and deep love we experience as mothers. These words honor the mothers we had, acknowledge both the challenges and immense joy of mothering, and ultimately prompt us to reflect on who we want to be in our children's lives. As I dove into these reflections I found myself I drawn to my computer with an urge to put my own thoughts about mothers and motherhood down on the page. (Who do I want to be for my children, for myself?) I know you will be equally inspired." "Allen Klein has definitely found the essence of uplifting encouragement and put it into written form." Inspired Personal Development
It's a little strange that a book likely aimed at the Mother's Day crowd is being published a month later, but the publisher claims its release coincides with "Smile Power Day" (June 15), which I couldn't even find listed in Chase's Calendar of Events. Marketing crisis aside, this compilation of quotes is organized into categories such as "A Mother's Love," "A Mother's Work Is Never Done, "My Mama Done Told Me," etc. Some are humorous, some are saccharine, some are out of context and seem to be included merely because they included the word "mother" (e.g., "I was a mother's boy," attributed to Don Rickles). VERDICT These "tribute" books rarely sit well with me, and, more often than not, they leave the reader asking, "So what?" Libraries can pass on this.
