About the Author

V.N. Kakar is recognised as one of India's top writers of middles. Born in Peshawar in 1923, he was thrown out of Pakistan in 1947, following the partition of India. Mr. Kakar did his M.A. in English from the Punjab University in 1948. In between his graduation and post - graduation course, he served in World war-II for two and a half Years.

After partition, Mr. Kakar joined the Uttar Pradesh State Government as Information Officer in 1948. Later, in 1960, he was selected in the Indian Information Service, then known as the Central Information service. he retired from the Government of India as Media Chief in the Ministry of Health and family Welfare. After retirement, Mr. Kakar worked as a consultant in UNDP, Asia - Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development, National Institute of Health and family Welfare, national Institute of Public Co-operation and Child Development, Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development and the Family Planning Foundation of india.
