John Reynolds leaves his father's Texas plantation heading west with a small group of men and several covered wagons filled with supplies, money and slaves. Word has not yet reached Texas that slavery has ended, but when the weary travelers stop in Last Chance, a small town in Oklahoma that lives up to its name, the slaves, led by Leon, escape and find freedom in a deserted ghost town. After finally finding water, they bring the town to life and fight to maintain control of it and their freedom from all who dare to take it from them, including one of their own.
