The Five Minute Foreman: Mastering the People Side of Construction
Foremen run every construction project in North America every day. Big responsibility follows you. Big money depends on you. But most foremen have no formal management or leadership training. That really needs to change. Starting now. You are go-getters. Hard chargers. Bad asses. Rough diamonds. Professional leaders. You've done it just by your own smarts, grit and determination. No one in construction has been given more responsibility and less formal preparation or training. Construction foremen are serious leaders, role models and true professionals. You might wear a collar of blue, but make no mistake: you are high-level decision makers and business people who deserve respect and recognition. It's about damn time everyone started thinking and acting that way. Including you. The Five Minute Foreman is all about giving foremen the tools and the time to grow and succeed. From this time investment will come the management, communication and people skills necessary to be a successful professional. This book - and every lesson in it - is meant to serve that purpose. If you are willing, the opportunity to become a better communicator, motivator and leader is waiting. Growing your own leadership potential unleashes all of your talents and abilities. And then, in turn, you can make the same thing happen for every person who will ever work for you. Professional Construction Foreman is more than a job title. It should be a reflection of you at your very best. This book is about how to get there. Five minutes at a time.

About the Author

Mark Breslin is the fourth generation of a construction family that started his working career in the field. His construction industry roots stem from his great-grandfather, grandfather, and step-father, who were all contractors.

He has served as the CEO of United Contractors (www.unitedcontractors.org), one of the largest and most innovative contractor organizations in the Western U.S. for over 25 years. The association represents hundreds of contractors performing billions of dollars in projects annually. Mark became the chief executive at age 26.

He has been continually identified as the number one speaker in the nation on construction leadership, strategy, and labor-management relations. As a strategist, speaker, and author he has addressed more than 250,000 business, labor and construction-owner leaders.

He also speaks to tens of thousands of field craftsmen and apprentices across the U.S. and Canada annually.

Mark graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Industrial Design. He has since taught at both Golden Gate and Sonoma State Universities. He lives in northern California. His real life passions include: expedition and adventure travel; with his most recent challenges to include: trekking the Sahara, paddle rafting the Grand Canyon, and hiking to Everest Base Camp.
