An old hearse ambles down interstate 95 toward the Great Dismal Swamp in North Carolina. In the back, a motionless body suffers the effects from the deadly chemical weapon-BZ gas. In the rear view mirror, Death smiles manically back at Furman Frye, the newest serial killer on the FBI's radar. Special Agent Mary Provo puts her undefeated streak of bringing down serial killers on the line and reads the latest note from her quarry, a rambling sing-song rhyme signed, "the Hunter," but things are not always what they seem. Will this murderer become just another notch on her gun like all the rest? Or will the arrogant Mary Provo finally run up against a monster so dangerous and so deadly, that in her struggle to stop a murder spree-in her fight to save her friends and in the end her own life-become just another victim.
