About the Author

Joseph Jacobs was born in Australia on 29 August 1854, and died on 30 January 1916.
He was a folklorist, literary critic and historian. He contributed to the Jewish Encyclopedia, translations of European works, and critical editions of early English literature. Jacobs also wrote for journals and books on the subject of folklore and produced a popular series of fairy tales – Celtic, Indian, and English.
