About the Author

John Burnaby (1891-1978) won a scholarship in classics from Haileybury College to attend Trinity College, Cambridge, obtaining a first class degree in the Tripos. He joined the Army in 1914, learning of his award of a Fellowship at Trinity while in the Dardanelles. Wounded on the Somme, he returned to Trinity and served successively as Junior Dean, Junior Bursar, Tutor, Senior Tutor, and, after ordination in 1941, as Dean of Chapel. He was appointed Regius Professor of Divinity in 1952, retiring in 1958.
Oliver O'Donovan is Professor of Christian Ethics and Practical Theology at the University of Edinburgh. He is the author of numerous books including Resurrection and Moral Order (1986), The Desire of Nations (1996), and The Ways of Judgment (2005).
