Overview

Have you ever gone to a doctor and felt like they were speaking a foreign language? It can also seem like the more specialized they are the less willing they are to take the time to explain things. This book was designed to help families better understand their loved one's neurological problems. People today have to be better advocates and that begins with a basic understanding of how a disease affects the brain. Through that knowledge we can derive better questions and learn how to better care for ourselves and others.

The first part of this provides the reader fundamental but easy to understand knowledge of both how the brain works and how diseases impact that function. The second part provides tips on how to better care for you loved one, These tips are a culmination of over 40 years of practicing medicine and caregiving.

About the Author

Although she had an initial apprenticeship under a master chef, Abby’s career start began as a paramedic. She was responsible for helping providing emergency advanced life support care to the Detroit area. After an early job associated medical retirement, she went back to school for her Ph.D. in the neurosciences. Abby went on from there to teach and continue research at a university veterinary college. Her caregiving duties began with her own child who was born with a profound case of cerebral palsy. Now fully retired, she stays busy by providing caregiving services to seniors in her current community of Philadelphia. Her continued love for cooking has been a bonus to her current clients.
