About the Author

Jason Medina enjoys writing historical fiction. In fact, most of his novels have historical facts blended in, which help add to the realism of the stories. Occasionally, he tends to include characters based on real people, as well. Up to now, he's written eight books, since becoming an author. A few were ghost stories, while others were historical reference books.

He first learned about the Shanley Hotel, after becoming a paranormal investigator in 2006. In time, he became friends with the previous owner, Sal Nicosia. He visited the hotel with his team, Yonkers Ghost Investigators, on several occasions to conduct paranormal investigations, or to visit his friend, Sal. During nearly every investigation his team acquired evidence that the hotel was indeed haunted.

Jason also assisted Sal with researching the fascinating past of the hotel. It was Jason, who discovered a photo of Rosie, who died when she fell into the well of the Hoornbeek Farm in 1911. This was accomplished, while researching her family on Ancestry.com. It was a research tactic he used often for writing his books.

Young Rosie is merely one of more than thirty spirits that are said to haunt the hotel. She was also one of the first to provide Jason's team with a class A EVP recording during their first visit to the hotel in 2010.

Eventually, when Jason became an author he told Sal he would write a book about the Shanley Hotel and include Sal as a character. Sal was very pleased with the idea and could not wait for the book to be written. Unfortunately, Sal passed away in 2016, a few years before Jason began the book.

Still, he fulfilled his promise to his dear friend and wrote the book anyway. Sadly, rather than writing it as a gift for Sal, it will be in memory of him. May he be remembered to all, who knew him, as the good man he was. Rest in peace, Sal.
