About the Author

Dr. Sarah Armstrong, president of Leading and Learning Solutions, is a consultant on instructional improvement, including the application of brain research and effective differentiation in the classroom. Her wide-range of experience as an educator includes serving as a reading specialist, supervisor of gifted and reading, elementary principal and assistant superintendent. Sarah conducts workshops at national and state conferences and works regularly with administrators and teachers in school districts across the country. Her book, Teaching Smarter with the Brain in Focus, published by Scholastic is frequently used in many schools as a faculty book study. Her new book entitled, A Practical Guide to Tiering Instruction in the Differentiated Classroom became available in October 2010. Sarah is an adjunct instructor for several universities, including the University of Virginia where she teaches classes in UVA’s alternative licensure program for prospective teachers. When not immersed in education, Sarah thrives on singing in an acappella early music group and playing the hammered dulcimer. Sarah is married to Stu Armstrong; they have four children.
