Anna is a young Amish woman who is seeing a man she knows she doesn't want to marry. She bumps into a homeless man and even though she is worried about loosing her grandmothers home due to debt(s), brings him food every day. She ends up bringing two homeless men home and giving them shelter. Her grandmother is okay with this even though there are just the 4 of them and their Amish community would never approve of this situation. This story is wonderful in that it gives God's salvation message, however the story itself is unbelieveable. Anna quickly falls in love, but flip flops back and forth about whether or not she can trust him. It's just too unbelieveable to be fully enjoyed. Perhaps a young teenager would enjoy the story. esk 01/2017

AWFUL! I tried to read this since I like books about the Amish but this was too strange. Anna was unrealistic and it was just a poor plot (was there a plot?)

A new type of Amish story - recommend reading it. Wish I could give it 4-1/2 stars. Unlike many Amish stories this one takes place mostly in an English store where the Amish woman worked. Additionally, this group of Amish were led by a Bishop who was kind, understanding, willing to listen without judging first and most of all loved God and his people. Others have written better descriptions than I but I did not find it immature. I feel the writer was describing a young woman whose parents had died and therefore did not have the guiding influence of her parents. She was living with her grandmother and they had to depend on her salary at the English store in order to pay their bills and live. Because of the financial instability I believe that is why Anna couldn't commit to one man she knew belonged to the church or the new man in town who she knew very little about other than she had feelings for him I do agree with another writer when she/he wrote the story of salvation was written well and told in an easy to understand way rather than preaching.

“A Secret Encounter,” the second book in the series, Amish Secrets, by J.E.B. Spredemann is a must read! Anna Smucker passes Joseph (Joe) Bender, a homeless man, on the street one day. He’s piqued her curiosity and she feels that God is leading her to take lunches to Joe and his friend every day in the alley. Joe and Anna become friends quickly. What happened in Joe’s life? Will Anna and his relationship continue to blossom? Aaron, who wants to marry Anna, will do anything he can to make sure Joe is out of Anna’s life, even if that means uncovering Joe’s past. I would highly recommend reading this book. The author does a great job bringing the characters to life. You feel like you are right there with them, cheering them on! You won’t want to miss this one!

What do quilts, an old barn, online marketing, some missing money, and a homeless man have in common? Pick up a copy of A Secret Encounter and see how this author can combine those things to bring about a touching story that reminds us that we are an extension of God’s love. I enjoyed the fearlessness of Anna. She was confident of God’s call and His protection. I like the way the author incorporates scripture into the story and how she sometimes uses the least likely of the characters to make some of her strongest points. The plan of salvation is simply demonstrated within the story making understanding clear and uncomplicated. I would recommend this book to those who love Amish fiction and to someone who is looking for a story that is sure to touch your heart.

An Amish story that will grip your heart. The author does it again!! Super storyline and message about trusting in God. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys Amish fiction. It's also a great reminder that we need to trust in God and his will for our lives. Very clear message about salvation. The characters in the story are well developed and likeable. I didn't think I could like this novel better than the first in the series, by this author, but I was wrong. I highly recommend both books. I received an audio version of A Secret Encounter from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you J.

This was my first experience with an audible book and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.  The story itself is a wonderful story of God's redemption and love.  The gospel is clearly presented through the writings of J.E.B. Spredemann.  It was fun to listen to the different voices used by the reader Lisa Larsen.  Wether you read this book or listen to it being read as I did it's sure to be a hit.  I especially enjoyed the feisty old character of Harvey.  I look forward to reading more from this author.  I highly recommend this book, even if you've never read a book about the Amish community, you'll thoroughly enjoy this one.  Thank you J.E.B. Spredemann!

I couldn't put this book down. I loved that the book showed that the Amish are just like everybody else, some good and some bad. It was a wonderful, uplifting story.

This book was a great read. Some of it was a tad predictable, but at the same time had a bit of suspense mixed in with the romance. This is a book that I would definitely read again. I thank you J.E.B. for the privilege of reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes or loves reading stories about the Amish. Now I would like to back-track and read the first book in this series.

I received this E-book from Good Reads and really enjoyed it. It had a slightly different twist than most Amish Romances I have read.
