About the Author

Sir Archibald Thomas Strong (1876-1930) was an Australian poet and classicist.  He is best known for A Short History of English Literature (1921) and an English translation of Beowulf (1925). A football player and boxer in college, Strong was also involved in the arts at the original Melbourne repertory theater. He was knighted in 1925.
