Let me start off by saying, (Wow) to the cover of this book. It is beautiful. I was drawn to reading this fabulous book because of the cover. This is the first book I've read of Elaina's. A Very Southern Affair is a wonderful book. Elaina Lee had me smiling, laughing and enjoying every bit of what I read. The story line was great and the book flowed nicely. When I read the back of the book, I was thrilled to see it say when the south meets the north. This had me even more interested in reading this book. I'm actually from the north, but now live in the south. The characters in the story came to life with every turn of the page. I'm now looking forward to reading other books from this talented author. Great job, Elaina!!!

Hollee Rutherford is the town liaison for the small southern town of Belleville and is supposed to welcome northerner, Kaiden Thorne whose company is considering building a resort there. Problem is, while Hollee is supposed to make him feel welcome, the locals are hostile as they don’t want their turf invaded by big business. And the locals will do about anything to drive him off, including staffing his motel room with fleas (yikes!). Soon, Hollee finds herself falling for Kaiden and to say Hollee has had bad luck in the love department is putting it mildly. She’s had four, count them FOUR fiancés who have literally died after becoming engaged to her. Certain she’s cursed, Hollee tries to keep her distance from Kaiden although he’s making that very hard to do. Through a series of crazy and hilarious circumstances, Hollee and Kaiden are unable to stay apart for long and they’re about to find out if Hollee really is cursed or if her luck’s about to change for the better... If you’re looking for a sexy southern romance, then this one’s for you!

Reviewed by JoAnne Book provided by the author for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book While a cute read it was a little too slapstick for me and was very often jumpy that I had to turn back and see if I skipped a page. Some of the characters were way over the top especially Booker, Estelle and Teddy Gomez. Hollee and Kaiden were total opposites not only because one was from the South and the other the North. Nevertheless, regardless of their differences, they had instant chemistry but both held back due to things that had happened in their past which took a long time to be revealed. When they did connect it was oh so good and as hot and steamy as it was down South but then one would ultimately run. Hollee many times operated outside of her comfort zone and proved that she could. The townspeople did everything they could to get Kaiden to leave their small town as quickly as possible. There was a small town atmosphere where everyone knew everyone else’s business – good or bad. It was heartwarming to see how they oftentimes pulled together no matter what their belief to help one another but not any of the outsiders. There were friends, townspeople, angst, tears, sorrow, secrets, happiness, romance and love. There was nice closure with the one year later epilogue that tied up the loose ends and that sealed the unexpected happily ever after. Lee is a new to me author and I will give some of her other books a try hoping for a more novel approach rather than a romantic comedy. Favorite Quote: Before he reached her, he withdrew a single rose and set the rest on the counter. Hollee’s breath hitched. Now why had he done that? She didn’t know if she wanted the answer, though she was fairly certain she was about to find out anyway.

First off I think the cover is so cute and the story as well. I was cracking up with all the creative things that happened to Kaiden. I also was laughing at some of the things Hollee does. Like the vintage dress and the bridesmaids dress. I can still imagine Kaiden's face when he rolls into this small town in Alabama and finds an interesting welcome from the town he will probably never forget. You will just have to read the story to find out. I thought the end was the best. I always love a story that leaves you happy and maybe a little giggly. I did find that some questions did not get answer resolved. Like did Hollee every tell Kaiden about what really happened with Teddy. I think that it is important in a relationship. She seemed to avoid the topic. I would really like to have Estelle's story told. I want her to have a happy ending as well. Just FYI this book does contain detailed foreplay, sexual situations before marriage and swearing.

"A Very Southern Affair" by Elaina Lee was a good romance read. It was definitely a novel that would make you smile and laugh out loud! I really enjoyed every page of the book. The novel flowed very well from the beginning till the end. You were kept intrigued with this storyline just wandering what was going to happen next! Hollee Rutherford is from a small southern town in Belleville and was the towns 'Liaison.' Hollee was to welcome Kaiden Thorne from Pennsylvania to the town...and the company he worked for was thinking of building a resort in Belleville, Alabama ...and the local town people did not want this...so many tried doing anything to drive Kaiden off...even into putting fleas in this motel room. Now what would happen next.... Hollee is starting to care about this Kaiden guy, however Hollee had always had bad memories when it came to love. Memories of FOUR fiances who had died after she became engaged to them. This was very strange...now Hollee is thinking she had been cursed, so....Hollee vows to stay away from Kaiden Thorpe. Kaiden hadn't had a good run in the (love) department either..."if he didn't need this conniving town to save his career....he would be out of here." There were several series of weird things that happened to him..from having fleas in his hotel room,to have be given a live fish to eat, his important work pages fly all over the room from the fan...but it seemed like the two....... Hollee and Kaiden couldn't stay apart.....many funny episodes..... football game on TV with weird neighbors.... The Sinclairs... the visit from the deputy at Hollee's office .....the flying large roach the size of a mouse..........then finding a closet of bride dresses and shoes...and this is where I say you will have to pick up this wonderful good novel..." A Very Southern Affair" to see how it turns out. Will this resort ever be built in Belleville? The characters were really amazing and you are drawn into every one of them.....Hollee, Kaiden, Booker, Charlene, Aunt Mazie, Estelle Cabrino, Mayor, Devan Winbourne, Jerthro Rollins, Annabelle, Mrs. Brakefield, Mrs. Reenee Humpston, Mr. Brady, Bubba, Lynzee, Bear, Nick, Deputy Chris Ryan, Emma Reynolds, Mary Jean Riley, Rev. Sanders, Coach Haygood and Teddy Gomez.....I am sure I have left someone out..... This indeed was a fun but yet serious novel that was well written beautifully. If you are for a sexy southern romance...."A Very Southern Affair" will be a good read.
