Alexandre Dumas: The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas

The Three Musketeers is a historical adventure novel written by french author Alexandre Dumas. He gave the novel additional political aspect, that makes the story more fascinating.

The Three Musketeers is a novel about adventures of a young man named d'Artagnan. He leaves home to travel to Paris and then he joins The Musketeers of the Guard. The story takes place in the 17th century. The Musketeers are d'Artagnan and three his inseparable friends - Athos, Porthos and Aramis. They live with the moto "all for one, one for all". Adaptations of the story tend to show d'Artagnan and musketeers as heroes, howewer the novel portrays less appealing characters, who are willing to commit violence over slight insults.

The story of d'Artagnan is continued in Twenty Years After and The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later. Those three novels by Dumas are together known as the d'Artagnan Romances.
