Overview

This abridgement of the world's most authoritative dictionary of ancient Greek is based on the 1883 revision. It includes some discussion of word usage, citing examples and characteristic phrases. Generally speaking, only words used by late writers and scientific terms have been omitted from the full lexicon. From Homer downwards, to the close of Attic Greek, care has been taken to include all words, as well as those used by Aristotle, Plutarch in his Lives, Polybius, Strabo, Lucian, and the writers of the New Testament.

Sufficient depth for all but the most demanding reader. Unless you reading Greek is all you, i.e. you are a classicist, not an historian, this is most likely more than enough for your purposes. The pages can be a bit hard to decipher depending on the printing you have, as the new editions are simply photocopies.

Essential for anyone making his way through fundamental texts in the original. Nice just to have around too.

This Lexicon is ideal for the student of Greek who has yet to reach his 3rd or 4th year. Most of the aorist and perfect forms are in it so that finding the words that you will need to find will not be so difficult. The price is not too bad - I think I bought mind for around 45. It's also nice looking and fun to have.
