CHAPTER 1

Cuddles the cat! Now doesn't that sound like a name for a sweet cat? Names can be deceiving. He was anything but cuddly. Cuddles got into more trouble than any cat I've known. Let me, Miss Ginny, tell you the story of Cuddles.

He told me, "The cats in this neighborhood like to bully and tease me. I have to defend myself. They say I'm weird looking. One of my ears is shorter than the other from all the fights I've had. It was bitten off in one of my fights. It's not my fault!"

One thing Cuddles loved was food! He often knocked over the garbage can to get scraps of food. One beautiful early Spring day, my son and I decided to have a picnic at a nearby park. What I liked most about Goethe Park was its many pathways and tall, shady trees. I loved the freshness and coolness of Spring that always put me at ease. We were grilling hot dogs when all of a sudden, Cuddles jumped over the grill grabbing a hot dog in his mouth. My son exclaimed, "Did you see that?" He was laughing so hard he could hardly see. Meanwhile I was calling out, "Cuddles get back here with that hot dog!

It was late Spring when Cuddles got into one of his worst fights yet. The neighbor's cat teased him, "You look funny, I bet I could beat you up. Your momma looks like a dog."

Cuddles said, "I can't let you talk about my momma that way. Say you're sorry!"

The bully cat just replied, "MEOW-NO!"

Cuddles just couldn't control his temper. He later told me he went crazy. He was in the middle of a full-blown fight, with the bully cat, when the animal police arrived. The animal policeman chased him for quite a while and then I heard him shout out, "I've got him!"

The policeman took Cuddles off to jail in his animal police truck. As the police took him away, Cuddles looked out the window. He cried out, "Help me! Why is this guy taking me away?"

When Cuddles arrived at the animal jail, the police paw-printed him and locked him up. Cuddles was a feline felon! I went for cat visitations and eventually bailed him out of jail.
